1 JENESYS2015 Inbound program (SAARC, Theme: Energy) Program Report 1.Program Overview Under Japan s Friendship Ties Program, 109 university students from 7 SAARC Countries who are interested in Energy visited Japan. During the 9 days program from January 18 to January 26, the participants studied Japanese government, society, history, culture, technology, energy and much more. The participants aim to promote Japan through mediums such as SNS. 2. After my arrival, I was astonished with many things. One of the discoveries was how detailed and well managed everything was. For example, transportation network, waste management, water treatment to mention a few. Coming from a developing country where even these basic things are not yet well managed, it was a surprise to learn how skillful and organized things are in Japan. We will not be able to implement the aforementioned things right away in my county, but some things that I will be able to put into practice right away would be punctuality, manners, discipline, respect and hard work. I have learned that Japanese people are very polite, caring and sincere. I would like to disseminate all of these positive aspects about Japan as much as possible when I go back to my own country. Sri Lanka, Student From the moment I arrived to Narita International Airport, I was blown away with this country. First thing I noticed was punctuality. Not only its public transportation services, but also the whole population here moved on time. It is a great habit that I can start practicing myself. The next thing I noticed was cleanliness and neatness. Not only in the city but also in the suburbs and even in host family s home everything looked very well organized. I found the high standard of technology making day-to-day activities very convenient. An interesting thing was that although the society is managed with cutting edge technology, traditional culture and customs remained amongst its people and you could see that within families during our home stay. What were most prominent to me were the attitudes and the mindset of the Japanese people. 4

5 They respect every human beings equally with respect. I did not see any discrimination due to class. I believe that this mutual respect amongst people plays a large role for this very fast development in Japan. Pakistan, Student I was touched by how Japanese people treated us during our stay. We visited as strangers; however they welcomed us so warmly which made us forget that we were in a foreign land. Technologies in Japan were amazing. After returning to my home country, I would like to hold a conference at my university to share how advanced Japan is. One of the wonderful things about Japan was that in spite of these technological advancements, people have not forgotten their culture and traditions. The most enjoyable experience here in Japan for me was home stay. I learned about some aspects of life styles and traditions of Japanese people. I would love to tell my family about how our host family took care of us well. Leaving my host family was very emotional and difficult for me. I will stay in touch with them by writing letters. It was indeed a splendid experience.
