1 Northern Station Newsletter sanfranciscopolice.org San Francisco Police Department Inside this issue: Captain Joe Engler's Message Friday March 15th, 2019 Captain's Message Check it out! 2 Residents, merchants, and visitors, Community 3 Incident Recaps 4 Upcoming Events 5 Crime Statistics 6 (rime Statistics 7 Crime Statistics 8 Safety SF 9 Feedback 10 This mid-march newsletter comes with the recognition that celebrants of many of our world religions share in many important holidays this month. With the changing of the seasons comes new life and hope, which is a central theme shared by all religious faiths. Hinduism celebrates the Maha Shivaratri, whose cosmic dance creates, preserves, destroys, and recreates the world. Catholics celebrate Ash Wednesday and the start of the 40 day Lenten season by praying, repenting fasting, and reflecting on Jesus' final journey to Jerusalem. Buddhists celebrate the death of a Chinese Pure Land Buddhist priest who taught that enlightenment could occur simply through repetition of the name Amitabha or Amida Buddha. In Judaism, the Eve of Purim celebrates the Jews' rescue from a plot to destroy them as memorialized in the biblical book of Esther. Hola Mohallah is celebrated by followers of Sikhism with 3 days of mock battles, music competitions and festivities. San Francisco, and especially the several communities that create the Northern Police District, celebrate our several faiths, beliefs and religions like no other place I know. Our several faiths and our acceptance and celebration of one another is the glue that binds all of us together as a loving and supportive community. Captain Joseph Engler Next Community Meeting: Tue, April 9th, :00p.m.-7:00p.m. Northern Station Turk / Fillmore Career Oppoitunities 11 Contact Us 1 2 Crime and blight is being replaced with daily occurrences that validate the very best of our community. Our young people are excelling as students in our school system like no other time prior. Our playgrounds have children playing on tennis courts, basketball courts, and soccer fields. Good times are all around us on display, a constant reminder of good triumphing over evil. Thank you for being the type of citizens that make policing joyful and meaningful, as we are all working towards making San Francisco the greatest City on earth. We are strong because we are different and unique and celebrate those great qualities. As we celebrate and protect one another, please keep the nation of New Zealand and their citizens in your hearts and in your prayers. Thank you for subscribing to our Newsletter! Please follow us on Chief William Scott's message Have a safe and happy St. Patrick's day weekend. -JE sanfranciscopolice.org/ chief-police

4 Page 4 INCIDENT RECAPS On 3/7/19 at about 1737 hours, Officers responded to a call of a belligerent subject at the Western Addition Library. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the subject, who was immediately verbally combative; officers successfully placed the subject in handcuffs. Due to multiple prior incidents with the subject, he has been well known to various library employees throughout the city. The subject opens library cards under different aliases and is habitually combative, and verbally abusive, with staff. On today's incident, the subject was asked to leave by library security. The subject then got angry, and lunged toward the victim with a magnifying glass in his hand. The victim was able to retreat in the back office of the library and called 911. Officers transported the subject to Northern Station where he was later booked. On 3/8/19 at about 2257 hours, Officers responded to a call of a subject unlawfully entering the apartment of the victims near the area of Fillmore/Eddy. One victim is a dependent who was lying down in the living room when the subject entered the apartment, so she screamed. The other victim ran out of his bedroom to chase the subject out of their apartment. The victim then managed to grab his personal pair of handcuffs and was able to successfully handcuff the subject until police arrived. The victim told officers that she was afraid the subject would rape her; the victim feared for her safety and thanked the officers when they arrived to arrest the subject.
