Urban-rural cooperation at eye level and on the basis of mutual benefit is possible. Cohesion and international competitiveness are not a contradiction. Renaissance of urban-rural relations is possible and would serve Europe National Governments as well as EU-Commission should give support to existing and to emerging functional regions within new regional policy after ESPON/Eurostat should help to make metropolitan regions visible.
