2016 ANNUAL REPORT

SYRIA GAZA 3 5 ABOUT US Human Aid UK is an international humanitarian charity which strives to alleviate the suffering of the oppressed. BANGLADESH 7 OUR VISION Bringing hope to life BURMA YEMEN THE GAMBIA OUR MISSION Connecting hearts of the oppressed as a result of man-made disasters; by providing empowerment and independence. This is a result of creating initiatives that provide actual benefits. CONTENT UK FINANCIAL SUMMARY 100% DONATION POLICY INTRODUCTION OUR COMMITMENT Human Aid UK promotes sustainable economic and social development, by working closely with community members from all walks of life. Our commitment is making sure people affected by conflict have access to at least the minimum requirement for a dignified and secure life; this includes access to clean water, sanitation, food, nutrition, shelter and healthcare. GET INVOLVED KEEP IN TOUCH WAYS TO DONATE WHERE WE WORK We work in coalition with our dedicated partner organisations in remote areas of the world. This allows us to implement an array of projects which brings positive changes to the lives of millions. We currently distribute aid in selected regions of Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and the United Kingdom. 2

HEALTH ACTION EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES Despite the challenges Human Aid UK have continued to work in Syria. 4 Human Aid UK have continued to work in Gaza. An overview of what has been achieved this year: HEALTH ACTION WATER SUPPLY, SANITATION AND HYGIENE PROMOTION WATER TANKER AND CLEAN WATER SUPPLY SHELTER, SETTLEMENT AND NON FOOD ITEMS We have provided families in Gaza with blankets, jackets, fuel and heaters. 26 GAZA AL SHIFA MEDICAL CENTRE In its third year running, Human Aid UK has continued working with the Ministry of Health in Gaza; supporting the central hospital, Al Shifa Medical Centre. Al Shifa has been stretched beyond capacity, with medicines in short supply, inadequate equipment and shortage of fuel and electricity. The lack of clean water in Gaza has caused health problems amongst the population. Often, these health problems are due to the increased of proportion of nitrate salt, chloride or both: which are found in the ground water for drinking. We have continued to support the water project for the third year now. The water tanker distributes clean drinking water around the Gaza strip and provides supplies to mosques, hospitals, families and schools. A second Water Tanker has been donated to increase water distribution. We have committed to maintaining the running cost and salaries for the hospital. A third Ambulance has been planned to be purchased for the emergency services team. 2 TANKER TRUCKS 1 WATER PLANT 50K LITRES PER DAY FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION IFTAR AND QURBANI 20 PATIENT BEDS 20 PATIENT MONITORS 2 AMBULANCES 1 PORTABLE ULTRA- SOUND MACHINE 460 families received Iftar packs and 4 Qurbani distributions were made to 80 families across Gaza. 5 7 NURSES 2 DOCTORS 460 FAMILY IFTAR PACKS 4 SHEEP 6

An overview of what has been achieved this year: IFTAR AND QURBANI 571 people received iftar packs and 8 Qurbanis have been distributed across Bangladesh. 571 FAMILY IFTAR PACKS 8 QURBANIS BANGLADESH Bangladesh is the forth most disaster prone country in the world. In 2016 alone, floods, landslides and cyclones affected over 12 million people and caused hundreds of deaths. Located close to two active tectonic plates, the country is also exposed to significant risks of major earthquakes. Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. With the population estimated at 165 million and the poverty in the country is deep and widespread. 7 8

Through established local networks, Human Aid UK has continued to maintain the support for the displaced Burmese families residing in scattered areas of Bangladesh and Malaysia. Countless people are still left without the right to live in land, and with little to no support, their lives depend on getting support and aid from charities. The lack of assistance for unregistered refugees and host communities have led to tensions over scarce resources e.g. water and firewood. Consequently, this has escalated to physical and sexual hostility towards refugees, in particular women and girls. Unfortunately there is no legal protection for the undocumented refugees. BURMA Human Aid UK have continued helping the Burmese families. An overview of what has been achieved this year: HEALTH ACTION We provided 300 vaccination for Burmese refugee children. 300 vaccinations 9 10

SHELTER, SETTLEMENT AND NON FOOD ITEMS 35 We have provided families in Yemen with blankets, jackets, fuel and heaters. YEMEN We have started to work in Yemen since Our first operation provided iftar and Qurbani. An overview of what has been achieved this year: 11 12

Poverty in The Gambia still remains the central concern and development cannot continue without international support from aid agencies. FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION IFTAR AND QURBANI 33 people received iftar packs and 8 Qurbanis have been distributed across The Gambia. 8 SHEEP QURBANIS 33 IFTAR PACKS TREE PLANTING We have planted 70 seeds for orange trees which will be grown on farms which will help to alleviate poverty by providing income and food for poor families. 70 ORANGE TREES THE GAMBIA SHELTER, SETTLEMENT AND NON FOOD ITEMS SCHOOL AND ORPHANAGE We have successfully completed the construction of the orphanage. The orphanage houses 90 people and contains 1 classroom, 1 ICT room, 10 communal wash rooms, and 10 dormitories. 1 SCHOOL & ORPHANAGE MINIBUS Our minibus is used for transporting students and a taxi for income generation purposes. This will help establish long term self-sustainability. We have purchased a new minibus in 2016/17. 2 MINIBUSES AGRICULTURE AGRICULTURE A cow provides people with milk, which is a form of protective food. Moreover, livestock also meets people s food requirements. WATER SUPPLY, SANITATION AND HYGIENE PROMOTION Poverty in Gambia is often caused by a lack of access to clean, safe water and proper sanitation. The water will be supplied to the school, the orphanage and the local village. 7 7 SHEEP COWS BOREHOLE

As part of our work we have a responsibility to help the local community in the UK. 11 100% DONATION GET POLICYAll Human Aid UK is fully committed to operating the charity s administration costs on a 100% donations policy. Every penny are covered by: donated is strictly for the charitable purposes. Donations specified for administration. Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing. (Surah Nisa Verse 58) Human Aid UK understands the importance of Amanah and the responsibility and accountability it brings. It is why every single pound that Human Aid UK receives is fully allocated to its designated cause and not a single penny is removed for other purposes. For example, if a donor gives 35 with the intention of helping an orphan, we ensure the orphan receives the full 35. Income generated from recycling. Profits received from the Human Aid UK social enterprises. Grants from various organisations. Tax reclaimed from the UK government s Gift Aid scheme. This allows taxpayers to increase the value of their donation by 25%. This additional money is allocated to the charity s administration fund with your permission. INVOLVED Human Aid UK s work was built around volunteers. To this day, we rely on volunteers. Ways you can help: Organise and participate in events to raise awareness and funds. Distribute leaflets, posters and literatures. Highlight campaigns through social media. For further information, us on: volunteers@human-aid.org
