EDITOR: Joyce Joyce STERLING SILVER April 23, 2009 Club 3005 District 6380 TODAY'S MEETING After opening the meeting by ringing our Rotary bell, Steve Neirinck led the Pledge of Allegiance and Four-Way Test, Merle Loch gave the Invocation. We welcomed Nancy Clavel Forte (our speaker), Anupam Goyal (father of James Chacko) and Jeff Hill (guest of Wayne Dula) to our meeting today. TODAY'S PROGRAM by John Joyce Speaker Nancy Clavel Forte gave us insight into a business arrangement which involves the concept of bartering among the members of TradeFirst.com. Over 5000 businesses are members. TradeFirst.com acts as a third party record keeper. An on-line account available 24/7 is maintained and a monthly paper report is also available. The most important reason for members to join is to get new business. The organization also acts as a marketing company with access to their members. TradeFirst.com also markets excess or perishable inventories as well as loaning money to clients. Member companies are evaluated by their clients as to their reputability and a weighting system is maintained. Disreputable companies can lose their membership. Three offices are maintained in Michigan (Oak Park), Ohio (Toledo) and in Florida (east coast). Bartering is NOT a way to avoid taxes forms are reported to IRS. Published prices

A trial login to their website can be obtained by contacting the speaker at nclavel@tradefirst.com. A prize (won by Marty Brown) was awarded at the end of the presentation for answering the question on the main reason for members to join -- to get new business. Thank you Nancy for giving us insight into a growing method of doing business. NEXT MEETING At our next meeting on April 30, Jan Mueller will tell us about the Sterling Heights Nature Center. It's a great place to visit and has interesting activities for adults and children. ADOPT-A-ROAD Have you noticed how tidy Maple Lane Road (between 14 Mile and Maple Lane) looks? We thank our Adopt-A-Road volunteers - Mike Saigh, Merle Loch (Chair), Dave Martin, Jean O'Brien and friend of our Club Toni Rodgers who cleaned it last Saturday. Jean then treated all of them to breakfast. Thank you, volunteers! ROTARY EVENTS ELSEWHERE District Conference, May 1-3, 2009, Frankenmuth, Michigan. 4 April 23, of 5 Club Member Directories One of the features of using ClubRunner facilities for both a Club and a District is a common database, which is the master database for member information at both levels. In other words, it is very important to maintain accurate information in ClubRunner since the same ClubRunner database is used by both the Club and the District. Accurate, up-to-date information about a member is then derived from this database. In addition to providing directory information, photos are useful, especially to new members, in order to identify and become familiar with other members in the Club. The following directories are available to members of the Club: View Club Directory (all members). View Club Photo Directory (all members). View Printable Directory (all members). View Mailing Labels Directory (if the member has sufficient access). In each case log into the website All member information is secure because the information is not viewable without using a member login and password. In the box on the left hand side labeled My ClubRunner (when you are in the ADMIN screen), select View Club Directory. At the top left click on Display Regular Members. If you wish to print this list on paper, click on Printer Friendly Version. This gives you member names, their address and business and home telephone numbers in a very compact form. Alternatively, you may select View Club Photo Directory. This option gives much more information for each member. By clicking on the member name or the photo, you will view whatever the person has stored in his/her profile. You may choose to click on View Printable Directory for printout of information for all members. If a member has sufficient access then mailing labels can also be printed out. It is the responsibility of each member to protect the information of other members from being improperly used. RAFFLE/SHERIFF Gayle Good ran our weekly raffle today and awarded the cash prizes to Gary DeWitt and Gayle Good. Irene Schwartz won Kerm's Koin, a 1986 Commemorative Statue of Liberty Half-Dollar and Tammy Turgeon won the Mystery prize, a 5-piece
5 April 23, of 5 desk set. Sheriff Steve Neirinck commanded our quiet attention and collected fines for assorted "infractions." We sang "Happy Birthday" to Merle Loch (led by Merle - "so everyone would start on the same note") and Irene then sang her Polish version to him. Yes, lots of fun and laughs, as usual. ATTENDANCE Attendance today (4/23/09) included Kerm Billette, Marty Brown, James Chacko, Gary DeWitt, Wayne Dula, Gayle Good, Jay Ice, John Joyce, Merle Loch, Steve Neirinck, Mike Saigh, Irene Schwartz, Tammy Turgeon, Linda Wenger and guests Nancy Clavel Forte, Anupam Goyal and Jeff Hill.
