More US state could possibly to signing the agreement. Canada is hosting the APEC Summit in Vancouver, BC this October. ACE the Federal government is intent on signing a trade agreement with the EU. To that end, they are pushing for Canadian professional associations to sign MRA s with their counterparts associations in Europe. Therefore, with funding from the Federal government, CALA is working on an MRA with the Architectural Council of Europe. 3 3.2 From Barry W. a great report Northwest Territories Association of Architects From Gino P. liked the reports coming out ahead of the meeting From Kayhan N. NWTAA is working on a photo contest to get the public involved in taking Architectural pictures. In closing, the departure of two key players from the NWTAA will be felt deeply. Minister s Representative, Larry E. after 12 years and Executive Director, Deleigh Rausch, after 7 years. We wish them well and thank them for all their work to the Association. A get together is being planned for some time in June. MOVED by Kris S., SECONDED by Barry W., THAT the Report of the President be accepted as presented. 4. Report from the Minister s Representative 4.1 Highlights from the Minister s Representative (full report attached) Over the 12 years of sitting on the Council having seen all the process of growth and maturity over that time has been a pleasure. The primary role of the Public Representative is related to the fundamental objectives outlined in the Architects Act - to service in the interest of the people. The Board of Directors and the Executive Director is who makes this association work. Almost everyone sitting around this table has served on the board 2 or 3 times if not more. It is the Northerns that make this board work. The demand on the gov t money and authority transferred to the communities has caused challenges for the association but you work forward. Appreciate serving on the board and wishing the association luck in its future initiatives. MOVED by Darrell V., SECONDED by Eric B., THAT the Report of the Minister s Representative be accepted as presented, and that the report be forwarded to the Minister of Public Works & Services, Government of the Northwest Territories. 5. Report from the Registrar Highlights from the Registrar. (full report attached) 4 new Intern Architects registered with the NWTAA 6 Registered Architect in the year (5 non-resident and 1 resident) MINUTES - 13 th Annual General Meeting April 5, 2014 Page 3 of 7
4 Thank you to Deleigh R. for all her help in the Registrar position. Wayne G. everyone must encourage our Intern Architects to finish the process to become Registered Architects. MOVED by Wayne G., SECONDED by Kris S., THAT the Report of the Registrar be accept as presented. 6. Report from Registration & Licensing Review Committee The Registration & Licensing Review Committee would appreciate help to review the Intern Architects CERB s when we receive a lot at one time. If you would like to help please contact the NWTAA Office. In November 2013 we had 6 out of 10 Intern Architects write the 4 sections of the Examination for Architects in Canada (ExAC). The results were, 5 Intern Architects successfully passed all 4 sections. Four more Intern Architects register with the NWTAA late last year, giving us a total of 14 NWTAA Intern Architects (8 NWT; 3 Nunavut; 3 Yukon). Darrell V. the NWTAA has pretty impressive ratio of Intern Architects to Registered Architects across the 3 Territories. 14 Interns to 24 Architects. Moe A-L. the BEFA process is a very good program for Foreign Architects to get accreditation to work in Canada. However, it is a challenge for the foreign architects to understand the difference between the BEFA Program and the Internship in Architecture Program. There needs to be presentations to Foreign Architects to explain what the difference is and to help them discover which root is the best for them. Moe is working with the CACB BEFA program coordinator in order to help future applicants. MOVED by Simon T., SECONDED by Barry W., THAT the Report of the Registration & Licensing Review Committee be accepted as presented. 7. Report from Continuing Education Committee Highlights from the Continuing Education Committee (full report attached) Two-year reporting coming to a close on June 30, Designing for an Ageing Population presented on Dec 02, 2013 was a great session, but it was disappointing there were not more attendees. The ConEd needs to form the committee to help determine what will help the Association in choosing the right topics for internal & external participants.
