2 ITEM 5 NEW BUSINESS a. PERSONNEL - It is the recommendation of the administration that the Board of School Directors approve the following personnel items: 1. The approval of time off without pay for employee #1749 until the first workday of the school year. 2. The approval of Ryan Thomas as a resource person for Dee Gallion until the end of the school year at a rate of $300 prorated beginning on December 5, The approval of Nicole DeLong as a Custodial Substitute effective November 12, 2017 at a rate of $9.50 per hour. 4. The approval of the following coaches, advisors, and stipends for the school year, effective December 5, 2017: Kelley Neyhart HS Track & Field Head Coach $6, Shelby Brett MS Track & Field Head Coach $2, Randall Wert HS Track & Field Pole Vault Coach $2, Ryan Thomas HS Track & Field Assistant Coach (Throw) $2, Patrick Austin HS Assistant Volunteer Baseball Coach Bruce Adam HS Assistant Volunteer Baseball Coach Ron Howard HS Assistant Volunteer Baseball Coach Personnel is approved pending receipt of all mandated credentials. b. POLICIES - SECOND READING - It is the recommendation of the Administration that the Board of School Directors approve the second reading of Policy Attendance. c. KATA SALARY GRID - it is the recommendation of the Administration that the Board of School Directors approve the salary grid per the attached. d. TRAVEL ACCIDENT INSURANCE - It is the recommendation of the Administration that the Board of School Directors approve the purchase of 24-hour Travel Accident Insurance effective December 5, 2017 through November 30, 2018, from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) Insurance Trust for the following employees at an annual cost of $35.50 per person (same rate as prior year): George F. MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL FIELD - It is the recommendation of the Facilities Committee that the Board of Directors approve Hursh s Landscape Inc. to renovate the Middle School Softball field at a cost of $5,389 per the attached quote. g. 3 Minutes of the KUTZTOWN AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Directors Meeting Monday, November 20, 7:30 p.m. The Board of Directors of Kutztown Area School District met for a regular monthly board meeting on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., in the high school library, pursuant to due notice to board members and the public. Present Randy Burch, Al Darion, Michael Hess, Karl Nolte, Jim Shrawder, Caecilia Holt, Carl Ziegler, Charles Shurr Absent Eric Johnson Also Present Call to Order Welcome George Fiore, David Miller, Diane Quinn, Scott Hand, Erin Anderson, Ed Myers, Jim Brown, Alyssa Wingenfield, Jeff Huffert, Leon Smith, Maurice Connor, and Christopher Smith The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Ziegler. President Ziegler opened the meeting with a moment of silence and Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. He asked everyone to sign the attendance book and mark the topic of comment next to his/her name. He requested that anyone wishing to speak on an agenda item please raise his/her hand to be recognized. He announced there was an executive session conducted prior to the meeting to discuss personnel matters. He indicated that this meeting was being tape recorded. Report Ratification of Motion made by Caecilia Holt, seconded by Karl Nolte, to ratify for payment the general account bills in the amount of General Account $2,364, Approval of Motion made by Michael Hess, seconded by Al Darion, to approve for payment the general account bills in the amount of General Account $712, Ratification of Motion made by Caecilia Holt, seconded by Charles Shurr, to approve for payment the construction account bills in the amount of Construction $331, Account Superintendent s Dr. Fiore recognized senior swimmer, Nikolette Nolte for signing her letter of intent to swim at Division I Penn State University. Report Dr. Fiore recognized high school art teacher, Mr. Benjamin Hoffman for being awarded the Kutztown University Promising Young Educator award. Board Committee T.C.C. Reports PSBA No report. Mrs. Holt attended the annual PSBA conference in Hershey and reported the technology sessions were excellent and she also received information on measuring success beyond test scores. BCIU Mr. Ziegler reported the BCIU was not awarded the Head Start grant. 4 BCTC P & C ECC No report. Mrs. Holt reported, Policy 204 Attendance, was sent to the school board for first reading approval. Two new high school courses AP Computer Science and Introduction to Engineering Design were reviewed. An update was provided on grading practices and report cards and she reported a data portfolio is coming. No report. Facilities Mr. Burch gave an update on the repair and replacement of the middle school boy s shower heads and fixtures. He also discussed the purchase of a salt spreader. Mr. Burch reported McClure Company gave a presentation regarding the possible capital improvement project. Secondary Programming and Scheduling Mrs. Holt shared the district has been receiving professional development from Jack Berckemeyer and he believes Every child needs an advocate. High school trial block schedule was reviewed and it was determined professional development is needed. The acceptance of the resignation of Katie Goodbrod as the HS Head Cheer Coach, effective November 20, 2017 prorated for only the fall season. 2. The acceptance of the resignation of Linda Andre as the HS Assistant Cheer Coach, effective November 20, 2017 prorated for only the fall season. 3. The change in status of employee #161 for Family Medical Leave (FMLA) to Intermittent Family Medical Leave. 4. The acceptance of the resignation of Ian R. Moreland as the HS Head Boys Soccer Coach, effective November 17, The approval of the following coaches, advisors, and stipends for the school year. Agreement Motion made by Randy Burch, seconded by Charles Shurr, to approve the Commission and proposed District Assistant Superintendent s Agreement for Christian Temchatin as District Assistant Superintendent, for a term of three years, effective January 8, 2018 through January 8, A copy of the District Assistant Superintendent s Agreement is attached as part of the Minutes of this meeting, and the Board President and Secretary are authorized and directed to execute the Agreement on behalf of the Board of Directors. School Operations Service Group, Inc. Agreement Motion made by Michael Hess, seconded by Caecilia Holt, to approve the agreement with School Operations Services Group, Inc. per the attached. Fusfoo Media Motion made by Michael Hess, seconded by Karl Nolte, to approve the participation agreement amendment with Fusfoo Media, Agreement LLC for the continuation of services through June 20, Comprehensive Plan Motion made by Randy Burch, seconded by Michael Hess, to approve the three-year Kutztown Area School District Comprehensive Plan, effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021, pending approval from the Department of Education. Strunk Media Group, LLC Motion made by Charles Shurr, seconded by Randy Burch, to approve Strunk Media Group to produce promotional videos at no cost to the school district. Motion made by Jim Shrawder, seconded by Al Darion, to amend the proposed contract with McClure Company to remove HVAC and ceiling tile at the high school for a total cost of $1,922,912.
