1 Message from the President In the flurry of the holiday season, and as the end of 2017 approaches, your chapter is hard at work preparing for another great year with programs geared to serve our busy members. In the new year we ll be voting on the slate of candidates for during the January 3 luncheon. You will see the proposed slate of candidates listed below. We are grateful for these volunteers and their commitment to serve our chapter and the profession! Our popular and well-attended Federal Tax Update is planned for January 3. Steve Tillinger will be our instructor and this year's event will be held at the Midland Country Club. On January 25-26, Dr. John Tripp will join us to teach Oil & Gas Taxation: Fundamentals and Advanced. Participants have the choice of attending one day or both. 2 Chapter Annual Meeting Jan. 3, 2018 The Permian Basin Chapter Annual Meeting will be held on January 3, 2018, beginning at noon. Business to be conducted will be the election of nominees for the fiscal year. Jodi Ann Ray, President/CEO of TSCPA will be our special guest for lunch. Federal Tax Update Jan. 3, 2018 Join us on January 3, 2018, at the Midland Country Club for the Federal Tax Update with Steve Tillinger. The course will bring you up-to-date on current issues in federal income taxation affecting individuals and small business owners with emphasis on coverage and analysis of any 2017 tax legislation, both final and proposed; updates and new developments of 2016 and earlier tax law; important court cases; Treasury income tax regulations; IRS revenue rulings and procedures; and more. 3 Oil & Gas Taxation--Fundamentals Oil and gas taxation is premised on unique concepts and has many detailed and complex calculations. Finding the answers to tax questions in this area can be difficult and time consuming. This seminar will review current developments in oil and gas taxation and the major tax principles applicable to the industry. In addition, the seminar will analyze the oil and gas Market Segment Specialization Program (MSSP) Audit Guide issued by the IRS to identify important audit issues for IRS Agents. The analysis of the MSSP will also highlight the IRS' position on various oil and gas tax questions, cases and revenue rulings. Recently published oil and gas industry Coordinated Issue Papers will also be discussed. Oil & Gas Taxation Advanced This program will provide experienced practitioners with in-depth coverage of complex issues encountered in the acquisition and disposition of oil and gas properties and other tax issues relating to upstream oil and gas operations.
