5 New content types available When you click the Search box, content types included in your Lexis Advance subscription are available in Lexis for Microsoft Office, including: Administrative codes and regulations Administrative materials Forms Jury instructions Jury verdicts and settlements Expert witness analysis Dockets News Legal news Directories Scientific Company and financial Expanded in-document navigation methods Once you select a document to review in the right reading pane, expanded navigation options let you quickly identify information relevant to your document or (options available depend on the type of document you re viewing): Terms move quickly to specific occurrences of terms from your search string Reporter change to the pagination of other applicable reporters Jump to move directly to a particular section of the document, such as Case Summary, Core Terms, Subsequent History, Outcome, etc. 13:54

6 More document delivery options Increased document delivery capabilities align with your workflow when printing, downloading, ing and formatting documents: Comprehensive document delivery capabilities when viewing your citations list that enhance the legal authority validation process Document download options include: save as one or separate files; convert to ZIP files; and choose between PDF or DOCX document versions Format options let you display search terms, embed legal citations and page numbers; and select fonts/line spacing New document sorting capabilities In addition to relevance and dates, now you can sort your search results (in ascending or descending order) by: Document title Jurisdiction Court 13:55

7 Additional search options From any set of search results, just click the Options pull-down menu and you can: Toggle between natural language and terms & connectors searches Expand your search to include synonyms and equivalents for your legal search terms New search results display options Now you can choose to view your search results in the following formats: Terms shows you the paragraph from the document that best illustrates your search terms in the document context Overview shows you a summary of the document contents 13:56

10 New Public Records search pinpoints current assets What do they really own? Now you can confirm the existence of a person s current real assets quickly and with one LexisNexis Public Records search. Look for the Public Records Current Asset Report (People) now available via your Public Records subscription for Lexis Advance, lexis.com or nexis.com. This report is not available to all LexisNexis subscribers. Please contact your LexisNexis account representative with questions. Current Asset Report (People) searches across the LexisNexis Public Records offering and then provides information on the assets an individual currently owns including Real Property Records and FAA Aircraft. (If you have a permissible use 1 to view the information under current law, you can also view a person s current watercraft registrations and motor vehicle registrations.) Enter the target s name and identifying information. You can use the LexisNexis Public Records search-refining features you re familiar with, like age range and requesting alternatives spellings and nicknames. It s a great way to uncover assets and: Confirm ownership and value of assets during due diligence. Determine if parties can pay for damages during early case assessment. Confirm or deny the existence of any real assets during the course of litigation. Uncovering joint assets that may have been acquired without the other party s knowledge during divorce proceedings. Search Tip: Only those assets titled in the name being searched will appear in the Current Asset Report (People) results. Consider searching the name of a spouse, relative or other individual residing at the address with your target to determine if they own the assets as well. Included with the real property overview listed in the Current Asset Report (People) is an Automated Valuation Model (AVM) that provides an estimated market value for single-family, condominium, townhouse and planned unit development (PUD) properties. Plus find comparable as well as area sales values. 11 Shepard s at Lexis Advance : Statutes, regulations, law reviews and more! You can Shepardize more than case law at Lexis Advance. Just as you could at lexis.com, you can Shepardize primary and secondary law sources, including: 50 state statutes and the United States Code Service sections 50 state regulations and the Code of Federal Regulations sections U.S. Court Rules and 50 state courts rules U.S. Constitution and 50 state constitutions articles and sections Law review articles Enter your citation in the red search box at Lexis Advance and click Shepard s. For example, to Shepardize 29 U.S.C.S. 669: To find the Shepard s format for the publication you wish to check, go to the Shepard s Citation Format Assistant. The searchable format list is also available at the LexisNexis InfoPro website. The Lexis Advance Shepard s display three subtabs showing Legislative History, Citing Decisions and Citing Law Reviews, Treatises etc. is available. (Note that Shepard s Signal indicators are included for citing cases!) The Grid view is available for cases, statutes and law reviews, though these sources show much less volatility. Plus you can filter your Shepard s results in a variety of ways. The default display is sorted from highest to lowest court. You can use the left filtering pane to filter by: Analysis (one or more) Jurisdictions Time frame 1360

12 Also use the left filtering pane to find specific concepts within your results. Enter your terms in the Terms within results box and click OK. Use the Sort by box to change your results display to newest references first. Or select Analysis (Red to Blue) to reorder results to bring references with negative treatment to the top. (The Analysis link does the same thing.) Find familiar features when Shepardizing statutes When Shepardizing statutes at Lexis Advance, you will also find the same timesaving and deep-research features available at lexis.com. For example: See upfront if pending legislation could affect your statute section. The Citing Decisions subtab is the default display. Click the Pending Legislation warning link and move to current bill versions. (From the full-text bills, you can also link to the bill-tracking reports.) View subsection reports by specific court citation The comprehensive report for the section you Shepardized displays first. If you need to verify a specific subsection, e.g., 29 U.S.C.S. 699(a), click the Subsection reports by specific court citation link and select the section you need. Create an alert and monitor changes to your citation Click the Gold Bell icon and monitor for any treatment changes or only positive or negative changes even to the subsection level.
