1 UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, TANGO CLUB CONSTITUTION ARTICLE I Name This organization shall be known as the Tango Club at the University of Washington, hereinafter called the Club. ARTICLE II Purpose To facilitate a community of argentine tango dancers at the University of Washington and encourage learning and improvement in both new and experienced dancers with the goal of stimulating a young tango community in Seattle, and uniting a group of avid tango dancers. We will accomplish this by holding weekly beginners Practicás and at least yearly Milongas. These events will be used to help build connections to the Seattle tango community and become a uniting leader in the national student tango community. It is mostly important that we aspire to create a welcoming and creative environment for dancers of all skill levels. ARTICLE III Affiliations The Tango Club at the University of Washington has no affiliation with any local or national organization. ARTICLE IV Membership The majority of the membership of this organization shall consist of regularly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Washington. Only those members who are currently registered University of Washington students have voting privileges. University staff and faculty, and non University persons may have associate membership status. However, they may not have voting privileges.

2 Every person is eligible to be a member of the club. Membership payments are due by the third practicá of the quarter and are $15. Alternatively drop-in cost $5 per class due at the beginning of instruction after the first two (2) pracitcas of the quarter. ARTICLE V Officers The officers of this club shall include but is not limited to a President, Treasurer, Marketing Director, Practicá Coordinator, and Milonga and Special Events Coordinator. Details on position responsibilities are located in ARTICLE X Officers shall be registered University of Washington students only. Officers shall have attended at least five (5) of the Practicás held in the previous spring quarter or ten (10) Practicás in the previous year. No student shall be elected to office if graduating before completing at least onehalf year in office. Officers shall take office on July 1st and continue through June 30th of the following year Impeachment of any officer may be accomplished only upon presentation of just and reasonable cause for such action such as failure to complete duties or otherwise disruptive behavior, to the Faculty Advisor of the club and, upon the Faculty Advisors approval, with a twothirds vote of all officers of the club. ARTICLE VI Elections Elections shall be held in May. At least one meeting or two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled election meeting, the President shall notify all members of the available positions, and their duties, via .

3 All applicants shall be eligible to have their name on the ballot assuming they are a student at the University of Washington, been a member of the club in the past year, and have not been impeached for the club previously. At the last meeting before the annual election meeting, the current officers will make known the ballot. At this meeting, additional nominations will be accepted from the floor and included on the ballot. Voting will occur via a Catalyst survey in which members run for any position they wish, as well as vote for one candidate per position. The candidate with the largest number of votes for a given position wins. Section V: Special meetings will be called to elect new officers to fill any vacancies which may occur, provided that written notice of this meeting, its purpose, and office to be filled has been or mailed to all members at least ten (10) days prior to the date of such a meeting. Section VI: A majority vote of all members present shall be necessary to elect an officer if a vacancy happens before the end of the allotted term. ARTICLE VII Meetings The Chapter shall hold regular weekly meetings during the school year, with the exact date determined by the Officers. Officers will not be required to go to any meetings that occur over winter break, spring break, a national holiday, or a holiday of the religion they choose to practice. Meetings will be allotted no less than one (1) hours time. A quorum shall consist of three officers or half of the total number of officers, whichever is larger. ARTICLE VIII Executive Board The club does not require or have an executive board

4 ARTICLE IX Programs Practicás held in a location open to the general public will be held weekly for no less than an hour and a half. At least seven (7) Practicás will be held every quarter. Members will be notified of weekly Practicás by a posting on the club facebook page or via . Meetings shall continue during the quarter Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters, as well as over break and during Summer Quarter as desired. At least one (1) Milonga will be hosted by the club every year. An outing to another Practicá or Milonga will be advertised by the officers at least once a month. At least one (1) officer will must be present at the advertised outing. At least one (1) officer will make the trip from the University of Washington to the outing via walking or public transportation. ARTICLE X Duties of Officers The President, as Chief Executive of the organization, shall supervise the organizations affairs and activities. The President is the executive, administrative, presiding and reporting officer The President will work with the Faculty Advisor. The president is responsible for making sure that all tasks are assigned and completed at a satisfactory level. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the budget and bank account. This is the only officer with access to the bank account. They will be responsible for both a quarterly and yearly budget to be presented to the other officers by the first meeting of every quarter. The treasurer will be expected to know the current balance at every meeting. They are also responsible for finding funding from but not limited to GPSS, RSO, Wells Fargo, and Mary Gates scholarships. The Marketing Director shall be responsible for public relations, publicity and promotion of the organizational activities. This includes but is not limited to hosting a Dawg Daze intro class, having someone table for at least three (3) hours on each of the Student Activities Fair days, placement of flyers in and around campus and in the community for both weekly Practicás and Milonga events.

5 The Practicá Coordinator is responsible for the weekly Practicás. They must find the room (ECC 102 or the lab have been used in the past), and find the teachers, as well as lead the Practicá if no instructors appear. Section V: The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the yearly Milonga as well as any event outside the scope of the Marketing Director or Pracita Coordinator. ARTICLE XI Constitutional Amendments The constitution may be amended by a unanimous vote of all officers and/or a majority (above fifty percent) vote of all members. Officers and members will be notified of any relevant votes at least a week in advance.
