4 Biographical Note John Pruis served as president of Ball State University from 1968 to Before coming to Ball State he was a professor of speech and served as vice president and secretary of the Board of Trustees at his alma mater, Wester Michigan University. Pruis' administration oversaw the construction of Bracken Library, the College of Architecture and Planning, the Cooper Science Complex, two parking garages, and the beginning of the building of the College of Business. Under his leadership several new academic programs and scholarships were created, helping Ball State transition from a single-purpose teaching college to an institution interested in encouraging the growth of other emerging programs along with teacher training. Pruis resigned in 1978 following controversy over changes to the university's salary system. Scope and Contents This collection includes correspondence, general documentation, inauguration materials, newspaper publications and photographs created by and relating to John Pruis during his tenure as president of Ball State University from 1968 to There are also some materials from years following Pruis' resignation.
