3 Chair s Report YOUth Inspire s vision is a better Aotearoa for all by developing tomorrow s work force - stronger young people, whanau and communities. We see this vision not as a purely aspirational one, but one which is being achieved every day at YOUth Inspire. Our key outcome is that all young people under the age of 25 be engaged in appropriate education, training, employment or positive activities in their communities. We are a member of the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs initiative. During this past year there have been a number of highlights, such as young people transitioned into outcomes-focused placements, education, employment or training; 85 young people participated in facilitated programmes that met their needs; Strengthen relationships with our key Stakeholders - Wainuiomata Community Link, The Todd Foundation; Hutt City Council, Wainuiomata High School, and wide range of businesses within the Wellington region; 10 of our youth attended the successful Limited Service Volunteer programme in Christchurch at the Burnham Military Camp for 6 weeks; 95 businesses provided opportunities for young people Financially, the Trust is in a good place, thanks largely to the ongoing support from Todd Foundation, Hutt City Council, Department of Internal Affairs and Hutt Mana Trust. This year the Board welcomed one new Board member - Matt Renata who is heavily involved working in the youth sector. We also farewelled two Board members Analiese Robertson and Awhina Vailima both of whom were instrumental in starting up YOUth Inspire. We were fortunate enough to secure Awhina Vailima as the new Youth Pathway Coordinator. Ali Black who was previously the Business Coordinator stepped into the role of Manager and has been doing an outstanding job. The Board is very fortunate to have staff who are dedicated and often go over and beyond the call of duty to provide the best service they can for the benefits of our young people, their families and our community. To all those that have contributed to another successful year at YOUth Inspire a big THANK YOU. Trust members, staff, funders and supporters, you have all helped to make YOUth Inspire a place where young people want to go to and others want to join. 5 Youth Success /16 After completing her National Certificate in Early Childhood Education, in 2015, Bailey did some volunteering and is now working for Lollipops Educare. Bailey s confidence and capabilities have grown immensely I am doing what I love and this makes me very happy says Bailey. We are immensely proud of our young people who graduated from the Limited Service Volunteer programme in Christchurch. The graduates celebrated their success with Deputy Mayor David Bassett, NZ Defence Force staff, family and friends from our community. YOUth Inspire young people attending one of our employment skills workshops, delivered outside in sunny Wainuiomata. Anna To o from Pacifica Driver Training delivers our intensive Learner Drivers course with the outstanding success rate of 100% for our young learner drivers. The Walter Nash Centre in Taita has continued to support our young people by offering casual employment opportunities to support its events. YOUth Inspire group fitness sessions have the added bonus of building confidence, strengthening team work and creating strong peer support amongst our Youth. If it wasn t for these fitness sessions I wouldn t have made it into the New Zealand Defence Force says Jayden Molineux from YOUth Inspire. These sessions provided me with self-motivation to continue my training outside of YOUth Inspire. We were very fortunate to have a local carver create an amazing carving for our entrance way into YOUth Inspire in the Wainuiomata Library. Our thanks to Rikki Porter-Samuels and Wainuiomata youth for their work. 5 YOUth Inspire Our YOUth Our Future Rangatahi ki te Rangatira
