(CONSTITUTION HIS EXCELLE~CY THE HONOl'RABLE h\1\ierson DAMBCDZO MNANCiAG\VA, G.C.Z.\L, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe CommerinChief oft he DefenCl' Forces of Zimbabwe. \YlfEREAS, by section 1.+3( I) of the Constitution, Parliament is elected for a five )Car term \Vhich mns from!he date on which the Presidentelect is sworn in assumes office in terms of :'iection 94( 1 )(a) of the Constitution; AND \VHhRL\S, after the last election, the President was sworn in on the 22nd day of August 2013, the fi, e year period ends on the 21st day of August, 20 18; Al\iD \VHEREAS it is provided by section 144( I) of the Constitution that where Parliament has not earlier passed resolutions to dissolve in terms of section 143(2), the President must by proclamation call set dates for a general election to be held within a period prescribed in section 158; AND WHEREAS, in terms of section 158(1 )(a) of the Constitution, a general election must be held so that polling takes place not more than thirty Jays before the expiry of the five year period specified in section!43; AND \VI IERl ias it is provided by section38 of the Ekctoral Act [Chapter 2: 13] that in a proclamation fixing dates for the holding of an election to the office of President, a general election elections f(.lrcmmcillors. the President, after consultation with the Commission shall provide for the matters required by the said section 38; A)JD WBLREAS it is provided by section 38 as read with section 45C of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2: 13] that the nomination of partylist cidates for the Senate, the National Assembly provincial councils shall take place on the same day venue as the nomination for the constituency 1\iational Assembly cidates; AND \VHEREAS the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, having advised that it has not conducted any delimitation of the elccton;l 1071
