2 Introduction Rolf Wessel, UN/CEFACT Expert This presentation will provide you information on the UN/CEFACT Supply Chain Reference Data Model (SCRDM) The Supply Chain Reference Data Model, started in 2015, is based on existing business data requirements published by UN/CEFACT. By using Reference Data Models we are anticipating and following technological trends, such as single window, data pipelines and blockchain concepts. UN/CEFACT is running several other projects investigating how to leverage UN/CEFACT assets for these technological trends. Important in business information exchanges is sound semantics (understandable, structured and globally applicable). The UN/CEFACT Supply Chain Reference Data Model is already in use - the Cross Industry Invoice is the first message derived from it. 2

4 What is a UN/CEFACT Reference Data Model? An exchange syntax neutral semantic model. Gerhard Heemskerk, UN/CEFACT Expert A subset of the UN/CEFACT Core Component Library (CCL) A collection of business artefacts contextualized for a domain. It includes a common master message structure from which messages can be derived. The business artefacts can be contextualized on different semantic levels (e.g. library/process/message). the principles laid down in UN Layout Key, UN Trade Data Element Directory and UN/EDIFACT. UN/CEFACT principles of harmonization, standardization and simplification. 4

5 Benefits of UN/CEFACT Reference Data Models an internationally accepted standardized & harmonized business entity library (CCL). Covering the data requirements of all processes across international supply and transport contracts. Supporting information sharing, such as enabled by data pipelines Efficient reuse of data shared within the BUY-SHIP-PAY domain model (contextualization of business artefacts and structures). A common basis for implementing, semantics separated from syntax (XML or EDIFACT). Integrated international code lists (UNECE Rec. Code lists, UN/EDIFACT code lists, ISO code lists etc). Available to all - free of charge - and all can participate in developments. 5
