UNDERSTANDING WORLDVIEW HAVE YOUR BOOKLET OPEN. WRITE YOUR NAME AND THE DATE ON THE TOP!!!

WHERE DOES WORLDVIEW COME FROM??? Worldview is pervasive meaning it is everywhere. We are born into a collective, or societal worldview. A person s worldview can best be identified by the actions and decisions of individuals and groups of people. Worldviews maybe very different because individual life experiences are different. Worldviews can be constantly changing with every new experience. Worldviews include perspectives and points of view.

POINT OF VIEW AND PERSPECTIVE Point of view is the way you see things as an individual. It includes your preferences and opinions. Perspective is the point of view a group of people share. An individual can share the perspective of a group of people.

EXPLORING PREFERENCE What do you prefer? If you could only have one device a Samsung or an iphone which would it be? GIVE TWO EXAMPLES TO SUPPORT YOUR ANSWER! What social media do you prefer? Why? Create a list of three things your group that describes things you prefer. For example: I prefer Pepsi over Coca Cola.

EXPLORING OPINIONS Opinions are situations or circumstances where you feel really passionate about something and are willing to fight for it. For example: I feel very strongly that child labor is wrong. Discussing an opinion: Do you believe society benefits from social media? SUPPORT YOUR OPINION WITH AN EXAMPLE or FACT. Begin your statements with: I believe social media benefits society because, I do not believe society benefits from social media because,

HOW WOULD SOMETHING NEW CHANGE YOUR WORLDVIEW? Worldview is a collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group; the over all perspective from which one sees and interprets the world. What kinds of things have changed how you see and interpret the world???? What if this ring gave you EXTREME human abilities?

HOW DO WORLDVIEWS CHANGE? Read the story about Xi and his tribe from the Kalahari desert. Recreate this graphic in your booklet notes.

THE WORLDVIEW ICON WILL HELP YOU TO Understand points of view and perspectives on different issues. Identify characteristics of your own worldview. Identify similarities and differences between worldviews held by different cultures Recognize when worldviews change and understand its impact. Understand how elements can impact each other.

ELEMENTS OF WORLDVIEW ICON Which image belongs to which image?

PLAYING WITH WORDS The letters are: G,T,B,S,V,E,K Take the FIRST LETTER of each element of worldview. Create a sentence using each letter as the first letter for seven new words. You can use the letters in any order!

IDENTIFYING ELEMENTS OF WORLDVIEW THROUGH ACTIONS AND DECISIONS HOW DO THESE WORLDVIEW ELEMENTS IMPACT THE ACTIONS AND DECISIONS OF CANADIANS?

GEOGRAPHY - HOW DO THESE FACTORS IMPACT THE ACTIONS AND DECISIONS OF CANADIANS? Climate - weather Physical location and landscape. Natural resources - Oil, Fish, Foresty Mining Human resources

VALUES - WHAT DO CANADIANS VALUE? How do people in society act towards each other? How do people in a society act towards people in other societies and groups?

TIME - HOW IS TIME VIEWED BY CANADIAN SOCIETY? Is it mechanical? (clocks, or calendars) Is it by season?

BELIEFS - HOW ARE CANADIAN CITIZENS ABLE TO SHARE THEIR BELIEFS? Religious beliefs Environmental beliefs Political beliefs

SOCIETY - HOW IS CANADIAN SOCIETY STRUCTURED? What types of jobs are available? Who controls the decisions that are made? Are there certain benefits for some people in society and not others?

ECONOMY - HOW IS MONEY MADE AND SPENT IN CANADA? Who controls profits from harvesting natural resources in Canada? What products are being produced in Canada? How do people in Canada make and spend money?

KNOWLEDGE - WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DO CANADIANS HAVE TO DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE? How do people develop knowledge? What ways of knowing are accepted? How is knowledge valued?

KNOW IT BY THINKING ABOUT IT! In pairs complete the question doe the elements of worldview that you have been assigned. Your answer should be written on a blank piece of paper. (include images to represent you answers. Put them in the whiteboard and discuss as a class

IDENTIFY THE SHIFT IN WORLDVIEW Title a blank piece of paper Labour Laws in India Read Exploring Sources Labour Laws in India on page 12 - Answer these two questions in complete sentences - How do economic conditions for some people in India challenge the changes the government is trying to make? - What element of worldview has shifted? How do you know?

IDENTIFY THE SHIFT IN WORLDVIEW Around the time of World War I. Which members of Canadian society had the right to vote? How old did voters have to be? Now think about today. The extension of voting privileges to all Canadian citizens 18 years and older represents a major shift in worldview. Which element, or elements, of the worldviews icon do you think changed? Why?

IDENTIFY THE SHIFT IN WORLDVIEW With a partner you must write 2 scenarios where there is a clear identifiable shift in worldview. Write your examples on the front of the card provided. On the backside justify which element of worldview you believe has shifted. Example: (Front of Card) John was very disinterested about his cultural heritage until one day is grandmother took him to see traditional highland games. Now he is beginning to take hammer throw and highland dancing lessons. The element of worldview that has shifted is VALUES. Example: (Back of Card) This shift is clear because before actually experiencing his cultural heritage he was disinterested in it. Once he began experiencing his heritage he began learning some if its traditional activities. Hints: Develop a small story that defines someone's behavior (actions and decisions) before and after having a new experience.

WORLDVIEW AND FOOD!!!! The Best EVER!!! Read page 166 as a group. Discuss
