3 Country context: Current challenges to peacebuilding and statebuilding in Togo Social and political Tension in the country ahead of the 2015 Presidential elections sustain fragility factors and put the ND process at risk Failure to complete the Institutional and Constitution reforms recommended by the Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation Commission before holding elections. Controversy issues: conditions of eligibility of the President of the Republic, the presidential term limits and the presidential election voting system Togolese opposition during demonstration
4 Personal fights between candidates, tensions and total distrust among politicians From the weekly rallies/demonstrations, the risks of violence are real The composition of the Election Commission The arrest, trial and imprisonment raised reservation from the public Political parties are in regionalist and ethno-cultural dimensions Togolese major opposition demonstrating to claim constitutional reforms Togolese opposition during demonstration

6 The Role of the Civil Society in the implementation of the New Deal in Togo Civil Society work in Togo in support of the New Deal Civil Society sees the New Deal as a critical ingredient to move the country from fragility to a stable and resilient state Forming and strengthening a coalition for support of the New Deal implementation and give a voice to society in peacebuilding Further peace consolidation, where citizens can realize their fullest potential CSOs Marching for Peace in support of the New Deal implementation
7 The status of the New Deal implementation in Togo from CSOs perspectives The pace of the New Deal process in Togo Slow pace of the implementation of the New Deal in Togo due to the following factors: a) Low engagements of Government b) Low awareness/knowledge of the New Deal on National level c) Lack of resources National Validation Workshop of the Draft New Deal Country Survey Synthesis Paper for Togo was only completed on March 12, 2014
