2 The International Division of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce leads the business community s efforts to shape global policy. What follows is a brief overview of our programs, policy priorities, and recent accomplishments. Headquartered near the White House and with representatives in key foreign capitals the U.S. Chamber s International Division is a powerful advocate for international economic engagement. Our experts work with leaders in business and government to vigorously advance pro-business trade and investment policies that create jobs and spur economic growth. With unparalleled access to key decision makers in the United States and abroad, the International Division is working to expand U.S. companies access to the 95% of the world s population that lives beyond our borders. We have made significant progress in recent years, but there is still much work left to do. This is an exciting time to be conducting business internationally, and I encourage you to join with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in this great work. The U.S. Chamber s International Division has a staff of more than 70 policy experts and advocates based in our Washington, D.C., headquarters, as well as in Beijing, Brussels, New Delhi, and Seoul. Key assets also include: The American Chambers of Commerce abroad, part of the U.S. Chamber Federation, includes more than 113 American Chambers of Commerce in 100 countries all around the globe. The Chamber s bilateral business councils work to advance commercial relations between the United States and key markets around the globe, including Bahrain, Brazil, Egypt, India, Korea, and Pakistan. The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), an independent, non-profit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber, helps emerging nations develop the free market practices and democratic institutions they need to succeed in the global economy. TradeRoots, the nation s only sustained grassroots trade education program, supports free trade legislation and helps chambers, communities, and governors assist small and medium-size companies expand into the global marketplace.

4 International Priorities Level the playing field for American businesses and workers by lowering barriers to trade and investment. Fight economic isolationism in all its forms, including undue restrictions on investment, procurement, exports, sourcing, and human capital. Champion innovation and intellectual property as vital for creating jobs, saving lives, and advancing economic growth. Align trade, regulatory, and competition policy to ensure open and competitive markets. 6 Business Councils The U.S. Chamber s business councils provide a forum advance business opportunities and commercial relations between the United States and critical markets around the globe. Council members have access to new business opportunities by advocating for open markets, regulatory cooperation, intellectual property protection, and other pressing issues. C h a m b e r O f C o m m e rc e International Policy Committee The U.S. Chamber s International Policy Committee (IPC) develops our policy positions relating to international trade and investment and makes recommendations to the Chamber s board of directors. The IPC focuses on issues such as multilateral and bilateral trade agreements, the removal of foreign trade barriers, and U.S. trade laws and trade development programs. Reporting to the IPC are regional task forces that focus specifically on commercial relations with Asia, Europe and Eurasia, the Western Hemisphere, Africa, and trade policy.
