2 Course/Module description: The course examines the politics nowadays from various African perspectives: historical, economic, social and global. The course will provide an introduction of contemporary African politics and the core questions during the semester will be: why the state structures are weaker in Africa than elsewhere? Why some African countries are suffering from high levels of political violence? The aim of the course is to enable us to develop knowledge about various aspects of African politics from the pre-colonial period to the present in using comparative perspective of contemporary African politics. Course/Module aims: The aims of the course are to enable us to develop knowledge about various aspects of African politics in the pre-colonial period to the present. During the course we will discuss some different test cases from the continent to discuss theories of comparative politics and collect information about the uniqueness of the African political cultures. We will use analytical methods in the social sciences in order to understand the key issues on African politics in the 21st century. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: The aims of the course are to enable us to develop knowledge about various aspects of African politics in the pre-colonial period to the present.
