1 Prime Minister of Canada Office of the Prime Minister 80 Wellington Street Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A2 Dear Prime Minister, We, the undersigned, support Canada s participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). We urge the government to conclude the negotiations and proceed toward ratification and implementation of the agreement at the earliest opportunity. Participating in the CPTPP would significantly expand Canada s network of trade agreements around the world, ensuring new customers for Canadian products from a range of sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, services, seafood and natural resources. At a time when trade diversification is more important than ever, the CPTPP would give Canadians enhanced access to the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific region, boosting employment and economic growth for all Canadians. The CPTPP would help to position Canada as one of the most open countries in the world, with free trade agreements covering more than 60 per cent of the global economy. Companies of all sizes would benefit from preferential access to nearly 90 per cent of Canada s existing export markets. Canada would become the only G7 nation with trade agreements covering the United States, the Americas, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, including three of the world s four largest economies. The CPTPP would provide Canadian exporters with a significant first-mover advantage in markets such as Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore. Most important, Canada would secure preferential access to Japan, our country s second-largest trading partner in Asia.

2 Page 2 Beyond these significant advantages, the CPTPP sets a new standard in regional trade agreements by establishing reciprocal, enforceable trade rules and disciplines in key areas of interest to Canada, including on labour and the environment. Prime Minister, we thank you for your efforts to promote trade and urge your government to conclude negotiations and implement the agreement as quickly as possible.
