1 The Moscow School of Political Studies is a non-political, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. The purpose of the School is to foster the development of a civil society in Russia based on the rule of law. A stable democratic society is beginning to emerge in Russia. But there is a long way to go and there are inevitable setbacks. The School is devoted to awakening the younger generation to democratic ideas and new ways of thinking. Civil Society Moscow School of Political Studies The work of the School makes a major contribution towards supporting the development of Russia along a path which is in the interests of the Russian people, of Russia's partners abroad and of those businesses committed to the Russian market. In a letter of congratulations President Putin wrote «All who participate in the School's programmes acquire not only knowledge, but new and reliable friends as well. Today the School is a centre for mutual enlightenment, for strengthening the values of democracy and public service, for nourishing respect for the law, and for developing new ideas». MASS MEDIA AND SOCIETY In recognition of this contribution, the British government awarded the Order of British Empire in 2003 to the School's founder and director, Dr. Elena Nemirovskaya. In acknowledgment of its success and accomplishments since its foundation in 1992 the School has been awarded the Council of Europe Pro Merito Medal. In pursuit of its mission the promotion of civil society in Russia the School conducts educational seminars in Russia and abroad; issues bulletins, journals and brochures on the work of the seminars; and publishes books by the School's experts and others. The School is most grateful for the practical and financial support which it receives from organizations and individuals who share its core ideas. Without this support, the School could not continue its important work. The motto of the Moscow School of Political Studies is «Sarepe Aude Dare to Think!» Golitsyno, December 2005
