2 The Citizen s Charter aims to inform the general public of the standards of service they could expect to receive from the public services and the Surrey Magistrates Courts Service Charter tells you how you can expect to be treated when you come in contact with the magistrates courts staff in Surrey. Our aim is to provide you with the most efficient and courteous service possible but it may be that there are times when you are not satisfied and on these occasions we would like to hear from you. MAKING A COMPLAINT If you make a complaint by telephone or in person you will be encouraged to put it in writing and give your name and address. This is because complaints are usually about something which has not been done or something which has been done in the wrong way and we will want to investigate fully and take steps to ensure that the problems do not arise again; we will also want to send you a reply. Members of staff will be happy to provide you with a form to write on or to help you record your complaint. If you write, please address your letter to the Head of Legal Services for the Area concerned, whose name and address will be found at the end of this leaflet, and they will investigate the matter further. If you are still dissatisfied following the reply from the Head of Legal Services, you may write to the Justices Chief Executive whose name and address can also be found at the back of this leaflet. 2

3 Please note The Complaints Procedure cannot be used in connection with any decision of the magistrates in court or legal staff, when exercising judicial functions. If you need help or if you are still not satisfied at the end of the complaints procedure you may wish to talk to the Citizen s Advice Bureau.
