1 2011 CANADIAN CENTRE FOR VICTIMS OF TORTURE
2 This directory was prepared following the development of the East Downtown Toronto Local Immigration Partnership s (EDTLIP) settlement strategy and action plan for East Downtown Toronto in which service providers identified the lack of available interpretation and translation resources for newcomer clients. The purpose of this directory is to identify interpretation and translation services across the Greater Toronto Area, to ensure service providers are informed of available language supports and to facilitate access to services for newcomer clients. To this end, all the language services listed in this directory are transferable between agencies, and the client need not register with the agency providing the language service. Interpretation and translation services that are only open to an agency s own clients are not listed in this directory. The East Downtown Toronto LIP Directory of Services published in 2010 can be found at and provides information for referrals to agencies with services available in multiple languages. Acknowledgements: The East Downtown Toronto LIP would like to thank the Immigration & Settlement Working Group for their essential role in producing this directory. For more information, the following LIP reports are available online at Environmental Scan Report Community Consultation Report Final Report September 2010 Directory of Services Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) is the lead agency that has assumed the responsibility to coordinate and advance the Local Immigration Partnership Initiative in the East Downtown Toronto area. In partnership with the community, the Centre supports survivors in the process of successful integration into Canadian society, works for their protection and integrity, and raises awareness of the continuing effects of torture and war on survivors and their families. The CCVT gives hope after the horror. For more information please contact: 194 Jarvis Street, Second Floor Toronto, ON, M5B 2B7 Tel: Fax: Website: Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture 2011

12 What is Local Immigration Partnership? Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) is a program developed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration to strengthen the role of local neighborhoods in serving and integrating immigrants. The East Downtown Toronto LIP has been created to support the objectives of the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement and complement efforts by Canada, Ontario and Toronto to improve immigration outcomes for immigrants and for Toronto as a whole. LIP seeks to help communities put immigration on their overall planning agenda in order for communities to benefit from the successful social and economic integration of new immigrants. LIPs identify groups that coordinate and enhance service delivery to newcomers to avoid duplication and promote efficient use of resources. LIPs also aim to provide a collaborative space for the development and implementation of sustainable local and regional solutions for successful integration of immigrants to Toronto. Bloor Don Valley The geographic boundaries for the East Downtown Toronto LIP have been established as North of Lakeshore, South of Bloor, East of Yonge and West of the Don Valley River. Yonge Lakeshore
