The CRISIS Violence in Rakhine State which began on 25 August 217 has driven an estimated 655,5 Rohingya across the border into Cox s Bazar, Bangladesh. The speed and scale of the influx has resulted in a critical humanitarian emergency. The people who have arrived in Bangladesh since 25 August came with very few possessions. They have used most their savings on transportation and constructing a shelter, often out of no more than bamboo and thin plastic. They are now reliant on humanitarian assistance for food, and other life-saving needs. Basic services that were available prior to the influx are under severe strain due to the massive increase in people in the area. In some of the sites that have spontaneously emerged, water and sanitation facilities are limited or of poor quality, with extremely high density raising the risks of an outbreak of disease. The Rohingya population in Cox s Bazar is highly vulnerable, having fled conflict and experienced severe trauma, and now living in extremely difficult conditions. Population movements within Cox s Bazar remain highly fluid, with increasing concentration in Ukhia, where the Government has allocated 3, acres for a new camp. People arrived at the new site before infrastructure and services could be established. Humanitarian partners are now building necessary infrastructure in challenging conditions, with extremely limited space 89, Rohingya Refugees (TOTAL) 65, Rohingya Refugees (IN BANGLADESH) 46% AID RECEIVED Save Rohingya
Rohingya Camp Cox's bazar, Bangladesh The largest Refugee camp in the world Executive Director of NAHAR led a team to support on the ground and see the working progress. The are now in need of emergency aid and relief services including food, basic medical support, tarps for shelter as well as animals, seeds and fertilizers for their sustainable wellbeing. Although there are lots of foreign interventions, the basic needs remain unfulfilled and insufficient. NAHAR has completed an onground survey regarding their present needs and found the following to be extremely necessary for their healthy living: - Toys for Kids 5 Education Materials 5 Food Package 1, Free Medicine 1
Emergency Relief NAHAR provides emergency relief, such as helping to alleviate the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, USA. For three months, NAHAR distributed 1, bottled water to the needy people in Flint, Michigan and then to insert pictures, which are attached Number of people received Relief package in Shunamganj, Sylhet Number of people received Relief package in Sirajgan Number of people received Relief package in Rangpur Number of people received Relief package in Kurigram Number of people received Relief package in Jamalpur
Pure WATER SUPPLY When it comes to any kind of disaster the scarcity of pure water supply is a very common phenomenon. But with the increasing number of refugees in different camps of Cox s Bazar, the lack of pure water supply remains a burning question. NAHAR went to the camps individually and set up 7 Deep tubewels to ensure that the refugees including the children and new borns get pure water supply in those camps. SAFE SANITATION NAHAR has found out the need of safe sanitation in the camps are as necessary as anything. Without a safe sanitation process being established there, these refugee camps are going to face a lot of diseases and human life will be at stake. Although there are several other interventions, they are not adequate enough. So NAHAR went to the camps and established 1 Sanitary latrines for this community. Health Care FREE MEDICAL CAMP In this extreme cold and severe natural conditions, people are suffering from a lot of diseases like, Pneumonia, cough, Fever, Influenzas etc. NAHAR established free medical cmaps in the area and provided treatment and medicines to 43 people about their various diseases.
QURBANI FOR ALL With nearly 1% of the population of the refugees in the camps being muslim, the second largest religious celebration Eid-Ul-Adha remains uncelebrated for them. NAHAR organized to complete 5 Qurbanis (cows) on behalf of them and distributed the meats among all the refugees. This created a glimpse of joy and festivity among thousands of disasters in their life. Also, in Bangladesh, NAHAR distributed the meats among 2,5 families in 217. ORPHAN SPONSORSHIP Statistics show there are more than 37 orphans now living in the Rohingya camps with no possessions, basic needs and education facility. Day by day the glimpse of a good future in getting darker for this children. NAHAR under their orphan sponsorship program could manage to sponsor 1 Orphans and also provided education materials to 2 children.
