Location Households Individuals M F M F Ayueldit Kuei Padiet Total The team conducted verification/registration exercise in three (3) above mention locations in Duk-Padiet county through support of the local authorities managed to identify the new IDPs who were affected by conflict attacks of Nuer and Murle. The targeted beneficiaries were new IDPs mainly female headed households in Republic of South Sudan 1

2 need of assistance. Majority of the population was displaced from Uror and Ayod counties currently integrated within the host communities in the mentioned villages. C. With the support of local authorities in Duk- Padiet INTERSOS team reached 1542 HHs/ 9820 individuals conflict affected IDPs and 8 elderly vulnerable in the following villages: Thiepaji, Jom, Kuei, Kuel and Ayueldit. The IDPs were not registered and there was no existing list available from the local authority. 5. Situation Overview -Note any prior assessments (eg IRNA) and attach to this report -If no prior assessment has been done. summarise information gathered through questionnaire at Annex 1 Padiet(5 th 6 th August 2017) Padiet county is formed by 3 payams (Padiet, Pagak & Dengchok) and 9 bomas. Pagak payam isolated and farthest area, difficult to be reached, there is no NGOs are reported to working there. IDPs are reported to have been moving to the area since late 2014, other influx during 2015 and late 2016, the last big influx during January and February 2017, cause the clashes in Uror county, which forced people to leave the area and reach Padiet county. IDPs are coming from Lou Nuer Area : Ayod county (e.g. Kotdalok) and from Uror County (Yuai, Pathai, Pieri, etc.). Most of the people have links with the host community, since the movement from Uror to Duk has begun many years ago, IDPs have relatives in the host community, Nuer and Dinka are well integrated since long time. IDPs coming from Uror are moving on foot, walking for 2 or 3 days and still there more cases coming due to frequent attacks occurrence in the areas recently a woman was killed and some children were abducted and some cattle were raided by Murle. There were a lot of gun shots all over Padiet for the last one (1) week youth were mobilizing themselves to go and follow the children and the cattle which was taken. LWF distributed cash to IDPs and elderly vulnerable groups known as cash based intervention (CBI) in Duk-Padiet, so that they can purchase food stuff in the local market the cash always given after every three (3) months. And CRS is conducting general food distributions for month of August 2017 rations. PAH is on ground rehabilitating some broken boreholes and constructing pit-latrines, distributing washing soap for cholera affected cases, and waiting to receive WASH items targeting two thousand and five hundred households IDPs and some vulnerable groups. 6. Summary of Shelter/NFI Situation -Summarise information gathered through questionnaire at Annex 2 -Include maps and photographs where relevant - Include any information gathered on community and intra-household gender dynamics, as related to shelter and NFI According to team observation, living condition and accommodation, as soon after the massive displacement of mid- February 2017, local authorities, provided space for IDPs. Host Community some are relatives sharing tukuls with IDPs and Returnees some integrated, the relationship is good. Before the distribution local authorities addressed the crowd advising not to sell the items which they received that each IDPs should now be ready to construct their own tukul in Republic of South Sudan 2

3 order to relief host who have been assisting them with space since it was not enough and cannot be shared for a long time. During NFIs distribution the most important item which every beneficiary was eager to receive was plastic sheet for construction of the tukul. Local authorities supported the team since the beginning of receiving the items at the airstrip. During the distribution they highly participated organizing the crowd and even arranging the items, they were real active caused the activity to run smoothly without any disturbances until the end. The team appreciated local authorities for all the support of security which they provided during the distributions, some IDPs testified that they are ready to start the construction of their own tukul with the plastic sheets received. 7. Assessment/Verification Methodology -Which assessment/verification methods did you use and why (eg household interview, focus group discussion, shelter observation inside and out, market survey) -If verifying, are you working from an existing list, or are you creating a list from scratch? -How many interviews/fgds/observations did you conduct? What questions did you ask and why? -Did you use sampling techniques? If so, please describe. -Is there any information you feel less confident about? If so why? o The team conducted verification/ registration by visiting households door to door in all these villages where each IDPs was registered issued with INTERSOS token the exercise guidance was with chiefs of the villages. Thiepaji, Jom, Akuei, Kuel and Ayueldit. The team found out that, the IDPs left most of their essential items and they only managed to carry at least a saucepan Kitchen and 5 liter jerry-cans with them. o The local authorities don t have any existing list because they have not been registering the IDPs and that s why the team has to conduct door to door through observation. o Six Short household interviews were conducted by the verification/ registration team to households visited and visual observation inside and outside the house to confirm what NFI materials the household have. o (Questions asked were if they are planning to go back to their counties of origin?) Most of them confirmed that for now they are ready to settle in Padiet until when the situation is calm. Just to know if they are still on move to another location because sometimes others move looking for month food distributions rations. o The sampling techniques were used in order to identify who were the real IDPs and host community during verification/registration exercise. o The information which I feel to share there are frequent attacks, gunshots during the nights in the area even when the team was on ground one woman was killed on her way heading back home and some cattle were raided by unknown gunmen information was not clear. RECOMMENDATIONS If emergency shelter and/or NFI distribution is recommended: Define targeting criteria -need/vulnerability (if vulnerability, define vulnerability categories) Specify items to be distributed -Number and type per household - NFI/ES, full kits, loose items -Specify if quantity of items distributed will vary by household size Key considerations for distribution -Eg access, logistics, security and protection concerns, push/pull, stakeholders/partners to work with Target suggested are HHs headed by female, which are unable to improve their shelter condition alone. If emergency shelter and/or NFI distribution is not recommended: N/A Summarise reasons and propose next steps, if any -eg referral to other clusters A new registration by CRS/WFP is recommended, since there are still movement of IDPs mostly in Duk-Padiet.
