Following the 2016 World Assembly in Jesolo, Italy, the Emmaus International Board offered to organise times and places where the movement s actors could work together and understand the contexts in which we operate, as well as the struggles we carry out together throughout the world on issues that our founder considered to be so important. We are now ready to get this project underway! The three struggles adopted by the Movement should help all Emmaus groups to come together through their actions. One space in which we can come together is the new international work camps, to be held in each of the four regions (Afica, America, Asia et Europe), which will be created to provide members with an opportunity: - To learn about and understand the working context and development of Emmaus groups in a specific region; - To understand the struggles waged by the Emmaus group(s) in that region; - To share one or more specific examples of work done with the group and the people that they work with locally; - To share a specific struggle or examples of campaigns with the group, the local population and the local network of activists that the Emmaus groups work with; - To have time for training or learning about the movement, the three struggles and the strategy developed by the movement; - To rally Emmaus groups around future commitments.

2 During the board s current term, 4 international work camps have been planned, one per year in each Emmaus region: (postponed to January 2018), Asia; , Africa; , America; , Europe. These international work camps will therefore bring together participants from all four Emmaus regions: Africa, Asia, America and Europe! The first camp will take place in Asia, in the Tamil Nadu region of India, at Emmaus Kudumbam, from 18 to 27 January. The theme of this camp will be agroecology and food sovereignty. It will be an opportunity for Indian groups to share with you their activities surrounding climate justice, right to land, food and community agriculture. You can register now for this January 2018 work camp by sending back the attached form places are limited! To ensure you are able to take part, some of the conditions listed on the attached information sheet are nonnegotiable for security reasons and to ensure fair treatment for all members of the movement. The following international work camp will take place in Africa during 2018 (dates TBC), within the framework of the Social and Environmental Justice struggle. It will take place in Benin, and will be the last work camp on Lake Nokoué. As well as allowing you to work alongside the Lake Nokoué population and Emmaus groups from Benin, Emmaus Africa will also be organising events around the topic of How can those most marginalised in Africa come together to reclaim their rights?. We will give you exact dates and further information in the coming weeks. We hope this fills lots of you with enthusiasm to join us for this opportunity to work together and learn from each other. 3 ASIA international work camp (18 to 27 January 2018) Places available: 40 How do I register? 1- Return the registration form (below) by to the Emmaus International Secretariat (g.chauveau@emmaus-international.org). Deadline for return: 10 November Registration will be confirmed by telephone between 10 and 15 November 2017 Please note: From that time, it will no longer be possible to make any changes, as non-exchangeable, nonrefundable tickets will be purchased. What are the conditions for participating? Registration requirements As the number of places is limited, we ask you to understand that the choice of participants will be made based on the following criteria, that we request you take into account: Group involved in one or more of the themes of the camp: agroecology, food sovereignty, climate justice, right to land, food and community agriculture. Participants able to express themselves in one of the three official working languages: French, English and/or Spanish. Early return of registration form. The earlier the registration forms are returned, the higher the priority they will be given. In case of over-subscription, participant no.1 on the registration form takes priority over no. 2 (we are unable therefore to guarantee two participants per group). Need for supervision of those selected. Participants must include at least three community leaders to help support the group. Eligibility requirements - Hold a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of request; - Have up-to-date vaccinations; - Attend the informative preparatory meeting which will be held for all participants at the end of November or the beginning of December (date to be confirmed at a later stage); - Have no medical conditions that might affect participation (see living and working conditions on site).

4 Working conditions on site: You must be prepared to work in conditions very different from those you are used to, in terms of accommodation, food, temperature, etc. The programme includes time working outside, meaning a good level of physical fitness is required. We have chosen to include as many participants as possible, which means luxurious accommodation is not possible (double or maximum triple rooms). This may make the environment more challenging that the one you are used to, calling for flexibility, compromise and good humour! Please take all of this into account to avoid any nasty surprises, inconvenience, difficulties or disappointment! Logistics Registration fees will go towards covering organisation costs (particularly transport) and the organisation of the work camp itself. European participants: airfares and visas must be paid for by the group. They will be reserved by the Emmaus International secretariat (group flight at a discount price) and billed to the Emmaus group. The registration fee per participant is 250. This solidarity rate will help to cover a portion of the airfare for participants coming from other regions. For participants coming from Eastern Europe (Bosnia, Romania, Poland, Ukraine), some negotiation of these conditions may be possible. American and African participants: airfares and visas will be paid for by Emmaus International. The registration fee per participant is 100. Following the registration period and before the information meeting, we will send you the necessary practical information relating to your stay (logistics, medical information, work and activity programme, etc.).
