Our Vision WUSC is working to create a world where all young people can grow up in safe, secure and supportive environments, where they can learn, work and play a vital role in their country s development. WUSC works - with partners - to strengthen education systems, expand employment opportunities, and improve lives. We believe that with the right skills, knowledge and opportunities, youth around the world have the potential to provide for their families, build strong communities, and create positive social change for future generations. Over 75 Local Committees across Canada as well as several overseas.

We impact the lives of millions around the world. HISTORY World University Service of Canada was founded in the 1920s by students and academics committed to international social change. WUSC was incorporated, in 1957, as a non-profit organization focused on human development and global understanding through education and training. WUSC has acquired the expertise, credibility and capacity for innovation needed to bring about sustainable improvements in the lives and communities of youth in the developing world. We have achieved solid results in the areas of education, skills-training, livelihoods, refugee resettlement and gender equality through our long-term presence in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Today, WUSC is uniquely positioned to match the skills and experience of Canadians with the goals of our partner organizations overseas to ensure sustainable development outcomes.

OUR APPROACH We strengthen the participation of marginalized and disadvantaged people in their communities. We respect and honour the contributions of our partners, members, volunteers and staff. We help local partners build their knowledge and skills to support the development of their own communities. We build accountability measures into all of our initiatives and provide comprehensive reports for all our work. We uphold the highest standards in international cooperation, adhering to the Canadian Council for International Cooperation s Code of Ethics, the Istanbul Principles (for civil society) and the principles of the International Volunteer Cooperation Organization, among others.

CREATING LASTING CHANGE IN EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT & EMPOWERMENT BY: Robyn, Canada Patricia Telford, Vietnam Improving access and Providing education and Helping youth become Strengthening skills-training Promoting gender equality Fostering volunteerism quality of education resettlement for refugees leaders in their communities for employment and peer-to-peer and entrepreneurship networks

EDUCATION WUSC works with government and civil society partners to strengthen education systems. We help improve the quality of teacher education, the development of curriculums, and the retention and completion rates of students especially girls. Overall, nearly young people around the world have greater access to quality education through WUSC s current work post-secondary students sponsored via the Student Refugee Program, since 1978, with 92% graduating and 85% finding employment in their field over 35 years. A 54% increase in the number of refugee girls in Kenya advancing to secondary school following remedial in-camp education, from 2010 to international students placed in Canadian colleges or universities over 30 years with a 92% success rate in completing their studies and returning to their home countries. Sustainable education reform in Afghanistan and Ghana.

EMPLOYMENT WUSC works with the private sector, training schools, local governments and communities to strengthen the quality of skills training and employment services and to increase opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. Our work in recent years has given people access to employmentrelated skills development and entrepreneurship services. WUSC programs have resulted in Sri Lankans finding employment in skilled trades and a 300% income increase for vocational training graduates since Better conditions for tea plantation residents and workers in Sri Lanka through WUSC support to housing cooperatives and occupational health and safety committees since Since 2007, 5000 Vietnamese students found employment in skilled trades at over 100 local businesses in Hanoi as a result of WUSC support to technical training. Improved capacity for vocational training in 96 community centers or training schools worldwide since 1994.

EMPOWERMENT WUSC works with student groups, alumni, universities and colleges, government and the private sector to promote volunteerism, and foster peer-to-peer networks. We help strengthen policies and programs that equip youth with the skills needed to become leaders in their communities. WUSC has helped youth, directly, in Canada and internationally to develop leadership and life skills in recent years. WUSC has partnered with or supported over 1220 grassroots women s organizations worldwide to advance women s rights over the last decade young women and men benefitted from literacy, numeracy and life skills training since 1997 in South Sudan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Ghana and other countries. Since 2004, WUSC has helped form 200 school-based Girls Clubs in Ghana which helped girls stay in school and gain self-confidence Canadians directly informed and engaged about global development issues in Veronique Plouffe, Peru
