1 South Kordofan Crisis Sudan Heath Sector Buetin No 1, 15 June 2011 hoto shows heath faciities providing services to dispaced popuation temporariy seeing sheter near UNMIS basnd the popuation moving from Kadugi town to the northern part of the State Highights On 15 June, Heath Sector members woring in South Kordofan hed a meeting to discuss the current capacity on ground, avaiabe stocs, funding status and gaps, to ensure provision of basic heath services to affected popuation in South Kordofan. Two heath faciities serving the dispaced popuation around UNMIS base have registered around consutations. With the reported number of consutations, there were (67%) visits for diarrhea cases, (19%) consutations for acute respiratory infections and 673 (14%) consutations for eye infections. Intensive hygiene promotion and water and sanitation interventions have been recommended in the camp for the prevention of waterbornnd water reated diseases. The Sudan ed Crescent Society and Mubadiroon have estabished primary heathcare faciities on the main road near UNMIS base to serve both IDs custered sheters around the basnd the groups moving from Kadugi town towards the north. The Norwegian Church Aid is supporting 7 primary heathcare units in 7 areas in the ocaities of Heiban and Omdurein. Some internay dispaced persons are currenty being served by these HUs. To date, there is a shortage of oxygen cyinders and bood suppy to treat injured patients in Kadugi. WHO wi transport 50 units of bood from the Centra Bood Ban in Khartoum.

2 Sudan Heath Sector Buetin Heath Situation Over thst 2 wees, security situation in South Kordofan has deteriorated with initia reports indicating that around peope have been dispaced throughout the State. A internationa NGOs have eft Kadugi with ony 2 Nationa NGOs providing primary heath services in Kegaduru (north Kadugi) and Umsirdiba (east Kadugi). One of the major commitments of the Heath Sector during the emergency is to ensure that riss reated to the environment are recognized and propery managed. The Sector aims to ensure the contro of preventabe i heath and to recogniznd propery manage riss reated to the environment. In the immediate aftermath of a confict when peopre dispaced, WHO as the sector ead stressed the riss of contaminated water suppies. iss incude diseases such as choera and diarrhea. Currenty, the provision of safe drining water in reasonabe quantity is a major concern which needs urgent response. From 7 June to 12 June, the 2 heath faciities serving the dispaced popuation around UNMIS base have registered around consutations. A medica team from the Federa Ministry of Heath (FMoH) has arrived in Kadugi to faciitate the re-opening of Kadugi hospita s services. Emergency cases are sti being referred to UNMIS eve 3 hospita. With support from the Word Heath Organization (WHO), the Sudan ed Crescent Society (SCS) is providing thmbuance service to patients. So far, the tota number of cases referred to UNMIS eve 3 hospita is 23, incuding 16 cases of gunshot injuries, 6 deiveries, and 1 neuroogica disorder. Due to the cosure of the Bood Ban in Kadugi WHO is preparing oxygen and bood suppy to support access to emergency services. age 2

The Federa Ministry of Heath has set-up a mobie cinic on the main road, north of UNMIS compound, to serve the dispaced peope moving from Kadugi town to the northern part of the State. Medair continues to support 6 rimary Heath Care faciities in Keia ocaity in South Kordofan. These are in Abu Liri, Chibni, E Harazaya, Kharasana, Um Adara and Abu Anderab. To date no information has been received about new IDs being served by these faciities. Marie Stopes Internationa (MSI) has a heath faciity in the ocaity of Lagawa with 1 medica doctor, 2 midwives, 1 medica assistant, and 1 nursid. Currenty, the organization has a fu team on ground and is ready to expand services when needed. The Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is supporting 7 primary heathcare units in 7 areas in the ocaities of Heiban and Omdurein. Some internay dispaced persons are currenty being served by these HUs. NCA supported cinics have basic heath equipment for provision of heath services. In addition, the organization is assisting to bring in medicines on a reguar basis from the drugstore in Kauda. Currenty, the medica suppy is ow, after its recent shipment of stocs on 6 June was stopped in Diing and was refused to continue to Kadugi. The organization needs assistance to deiver stocs to heath faciities in Heiban and Omdurein. Save the Chidren is supporting 4 heath faciities in the rura areas of Heiban. With support from WHO, it has sufficient medica drugs and suppies to cover the needs of the faciities. Sudanaid is woring with 3 primary heathcare units in Um Dorrain, Kauda and Daami. The organization is running short of suppies and urgenty needs support from WHO for medica drugs. To date, no information has reached its main office on how many IDs the HUs are currenty serving in the 3 ocaities due to inaccessibiity of thesreas and unavaiabiity of communication faciities. SCS and Mubadiroon with support from WHO, UNICEF and UNFA have estabished primary heathcare faciities on the main road near UNMIS base to serve both IDs custered sheters around the basnd the groups moving from Kadugi town towards the north. WHO, UNICEF and UNFA are providing medica drugs and suppies to these faciities. To date, there is a shortage of bood suppy and oxygen cyinders to treat injured patients in Kadugi. WHO wi transport 50 units of bood from the Centra Bood Ban in Khartoum as soon as thirspace in Kadugi opens for UN fights. WHO is cosey coordinating with SCS regarding the depoyment of vounteers to heath faciities near UNMIS base. On 14 June, 10 vounteers arrived and started first aid services. The vounteers arso disseminating messages on basic persona hygiene, maaria and diarrhea diseases. Due to the huge gap in medica cadres, WHO medica staff have participated in the provision of first aid services and consutations. age 3
