4 Survey Description Research aim The aim of the survey is to set baseline value of a result indicator of the Programme. The result indicator is the share of inhabitants of Valga and Valka considering Valga and Valka as a joint entity. Field work Method Sample Target group November, 0 CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing) 00 respondents (Valka, LV: 00, Valga, EE: 00), sample representativeness ensured via quota setting on age and gender Inhabitants of Valka and Valga, in the age years and older Terms used * Sample size 0<n<0 is an insufficient number to make statistically significant conclusions. ** Sample size of n<0 is extremely small, data are only illustrative.. the indicator is statistically significantly higher lower than in the total sample (9% probability) GfK 0 Survey for setting baseline value of the result indicator of the Estonia Latvia Programme 0-00
5 Sample Profile All respondents (n=00) 00% Country Estonia (n=00) Latvia (n=00) 0% 0% Age -9 (n=8) 0-9 (n=7) 0-69 (n=) 70 and older (n=7) % 9% % 9% Gender Male (n=80) Female (n=0) % % GfK 0 Survey for setting baseline value of the result indicator of the Estonia Latvia Programme 0-00
6 Summary GfK 0 Survey for setting baseline value of the result indicator of the Estonia Latvia Programme
7 Summary of the survey results Survey sample basis has been modified out of two hundred respondents selected as a stratified random sample among inhabitants of Valga (Estonia) and two hundred respondents from Valka (Latvia). The group of respondents both in Valga and Valka represents the structure of population in these towns. Survey results show that % of inhabitants of Estonian Valga and Latvian Valka consider these towns a joint entity. 7% of inhabitants shared opinion that Valga and Valka are rather one joint town with a few things apart, while the highest unity rate, i.e. one town that has formed of two towns, was given by % of respondents.. Significantly more younger people at the age -9 consider Valga and Valka to be rather one joint town in comparison to the rest age groups, while for people at the age 70 years and older it was statistically significantly more difficult to evaluate unity of two towns. There were no statistically significant differences in evaluation on unity of Valga and Valga either between the countries or genders. Noticeably more Latvians visit Valga almost daily / of inhabitants of Valka indicated they visit neighbor town almost every day, while only every 0 th inhabitant of Valga visits neighbor town with the same frequency. The biggest share (7%) of inhabitants of Valga visit Valka a few times a year, while the same visit frequency is relevant for % of population of Valka. Older age group (70 years and older) visit neighbor town noticeably less compared to the rest age groups. The most common suggestions, what Valga and Valka could do jointly in the nearest future are cultural events, establishment of new workplaces, as well as provision of joint medical treatment and transport connection between these towns. Joint medical treatment appeared to be extremely important for Latvians which influenced the total result. Also joint medical treatment was significantly more mentioned by women and appeared to be the most popular suggestion among older people (at the age 70 years and older). Joint activities for children were significantly more mentioned by younger people (at the age -9 years old).
