1 Student A NO 1. Lithuania's 15-year-old gold medallist Rūta Meilutytė says she won't change her nationality despite living in Plymouth. Rūta moved to England aged 12. Training in Plymouth facility, Meilutytė has undergone radical improvement in the last year just in time to take the London Games by storm. She came to England from Kaunas in the summer of Her father, Saulius Meilutis, had come over first to secure work and find a place to live. Once established in her new home she joined the Plymouth Leander swimming club. Asked whether she would consider changing her nationality to British to help the medal tally, she said bluntly, "no". I am pleased that your work is highly valued globally and achieved international acknowledgment. Gifted, talented and creative people, whose knowledge and enthusiasm stimulate global progress, are the greatest treasure of the country and of humanity, said Grybauskaitė. The president noted that Professor Shiller s work and scientific achievements are an inspiration to Lithuanian youth to study, strive for knowledge and create Lithuanian future by persistent work and energy. In the areas of technology and lasers Lithuania is one of the leaders in the world. Talented Lithuanian youth are known for innovation, widely applied software and mobile applications.

5 Student A NO 3. Today s Lithuanian youth will face bigger social and economic challenges in the future, but they should not worry too much. Young people do not have the feeling of helplessness, which is characteristic of Lithuanian society today. Therefore, their efforts to find a better life are natural. Psychologist Legkauskas said that only one fifth of Lithuanian society consists of young people. Thus, in the future, with the decrease in the working-age population numbers, today s youth will face not only a higher tax burden, but also social life challenges. They will become a sandwich generation - the ones who still have to provide for the children and also take care of their parents. However, in the next 5-7 years the youth will be valued a lot as desired employees.

A survey conducted by the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts has revealed that companies feel there is a lack of professional school graduates and that there was a need to train more of them. The main reason for the respondents being dissatisfied with the graduates was the lack of practical skills, motivation and inability to adjust to the work. Other reasons were the irresponsible attitude and absenteeism, the level of theoretical knowledge, and the lack of knowledge of foreign languages. The survey showed that the accommodation and food services, tourism, sports and leisure sectors found it difficult to find chefs and waiters. The car, spare parts, tools and service sectors show a lack of service people and auto-mechanics, and the healthcare sector, social work and beauty services lacked nurses.

She stated that the Foreigner Registration Centre failed to ensure the right to their residents to eat by their religion. The minister s stance is that foreigners living in the Foreigner Registration Centre in Pabradė should have an alternative and receive vegetarian meals. Relevant changes to the living conditions and scheme are being drafted and will be shortly approved by the minister s decree, the Minister s adviser Valdas Kaminskas told BNS. In a report signed by Žiobienė at the beginning of January, Buddhists and Muslims were subjected to discrimination in terms of meals. For instance, religion bans Buddhists from eating meat, while Muslims do not eat pork. Adapted from
