Buckley is a shareholder in the Chicago office of Vedder Price P.C., an AmLaw 200 law firm, and chairs its Business Immigration Practice Group. Ms. Buckley has over 25 years of experience counseling U.S.-and foreign-based companies with regard to all aspects of employment-related immigration law. She is the immediate past co-chair of the International Bar Association s Immigration & Nationality Committee, and has served on the ABA s 13-member Commission on Immigration and its Advisory Committee. She also served as co-chair of the Immigration & Nationality Committee of the ABA s Section of International Law. Ms. Buckley is an Adjunct Professor of Law at The John Marshall Law School and serves on the Leadership Council of the National Immigrant Justice Center and on the board of directors of Interfaith Refugee and Immigrant Ministries. Ms. Buckley holds a rating of AV from Martindale-Hubbell. Jane Carroll is Associate General Counsel of ThoughtWorks, Inc., a global It consultancy firm headquartered in Chicago with offices in Canada, the UK, Australia, China, India and Brazil. Her practice focuses on business-related immigration law, including nonimmigrant business visas and permanent residence. She is responsible for inbound as well as outbound immigration for the company. Ms. Carroll is a graduate of Cambridge University in Cambridge, England and Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. She is a current member of the AILA Nebraska Service Center Liaison Committee and is a member of the AILA Advocacy Committee. She has spoken on business immigration topics at various AILA conferences and seminars. Laura Danielson is the chair of the Immigration Department at Fredrikson & Byron. She has been an immigration lawyer since 1989, is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, and teaches immigration law at the University of Minnesota Law School. She is also co-author of Immigration Law in a Nutshell. As a long-term member of the Alliance of Business Immigration Lawyers she has been especially active in developing its global consortium of immigration practitioners in countries throughout the world. Splitting her time between Minneapolis and Fredrikson & Byron s international offices in London, Monterrey and Shanghai, Laura is committed to developing and providing global immigration services. Concentrating on business and arts-related immigration, Laura works on a variety of non-immigrant and immigrant visa matters. She also has expertise in I-9 audits and other compliance matters, employer sanctions, family immigration, and naturalization matters. 1

2 Carmen DiPlacido was with the United States Department of State from 1970 until He received a B.A. from Bowling Green State University in 1967 and a J.D. in 1970 from the University of Akron School of Law. He is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Charlottesville, Virginia; the OPM Executive Development Program; and, the National War College, Washington D.C. While with the Department s Bureau of Consular Affairs, he held positions as a supervisory attorney advisor, Office Director and Acting DAS. He has had extensive experience in consular law, with his forte in citizenship. Upon retirement from public service, he established a private consular, immigration and citizenship law practice in Arlington, Virginia; Carmen Anthony DiPlacido and Associates, Inc. He is also Of Counsel to the California law firm of Tafapolsky and Smith. David L.P. Garson is a senior partner and managing partner of Guberman, Garson, Bush. He has practiced immigration law for over 18 years. According to the most recent International Who s Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers, Mr. Garson is rated as a highly regarded individual in immigration law in Canada. Mr. Garson advises clients on immigration issues related to conducting business across international borders. His clients include senior executives and individuals as well as institutions and large multinational organizations. He is past chair of the Canadian Bar Association Ontario, Immigration and Citizenship Section, is a member of AILA, past chair of AILA s Canada chapter, and past chair of the CLE committee of the Young Lawyers Division, Canadian Bar Association. Mr. Garson is also past co-programme coordinator for the immigration section of the Canadian Bar Association Ontario. Lois Gimpel Shaukat completed a bachelor s degree in Spanish Literature from Barnard College and earned her JD degree from Temple University. She began her work in immigration law with Florida Rural Legal Services in Belle Glade, Florida representing migrant farm workers. Lois then joined the law firm of Mailman & Schultz and began her career in business immigration law. Thereafter she worked for 8 years with the New York Office of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy. 3 Leslie A. Holman is the founder of Holman Immigration Law a law firm located in Burlington, Vermont and limited to the practice of immigration and nationality matters. She represents both corporate and individual clients. Leslie is currently serving as Secretary of the American Immigration Lawyer s Association. Prior to serving on AILA s Executive Committee, Leslie was an elected member of AILA s Board of Governors and she has served as: Chair of AILA s Admissions and Border Enforcement Committee, Vice Chair of AILA s National CBP Liaison Committee, a member for AILA s National Interagency Committee. In addition, Leslie continues to serve as the AILA New England Chapter liaison to regional ports of entry. Leslie is a member the Vermont State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission of Civil rights and in 2008 she was awarded the Sam Williamson Mentor Award. Leslie speaks frequently to a wide variety of audiences on all aspects of immigration. Sergio R. Karas, B.A., LL.B., is a Canadian Barrister and Solicitor and a Certified Specialist in Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Karas represents individuals and multinational corporations to achieve their immigration objectives and implement successful relocation strategies. Mr. Karas is an honors graduate in Political Science from York University and obtained his Law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. He speaks fluent English, French and Spanish and has a working knowledge of Italian, Portuguese and German. He is Past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) Citizenship and Immigration Section, Past Chair of the International Bar Association (IBA) Immigration and Nationality Committee, and Past Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Canada Committee, Section of International Law. He has been invited on numerous occasions to address other lawyers and human resources managers at major international professional gatherings, such as the annual IBA Conferences and the sessions of the Center for International Legal Studies in Salzburg, Austria. Mr. Karas contributes to the press providing current information about Canada's immigration law and policies. His articles are published in several languages in national and international journals, and he provides immigration policy insight and commentary to Canada s national press. He is a regular guest on local, national and international radio and television programs. Mr. Karas is contributing writer on immigration issues for Canadian HR Reporter and Canadian Employment Law Today. Mr. Karas has been instrumental in effecting changes to Canadian immigration visa policies through his involvement in US-Canada relations and border security issues. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) in Toronto for ten years. Elaine Kumpula has been an immigration lawyer since Her practice focuses on employment-based immigration for a wide variety of corporate and professional clients. Deborah Marlowe is a Partner with Berry Appleman & Leiden and serves as Co-Chair of the Atlanta and New York offices. Ms. Marlowe practices in all areas of business-related immigration law. Her focus includes representing numerous international companies in alien employment certification proceedings before the Department of Labor and with respect to temporary and permanent visa petitions before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad. Ms. Marlowe represents numerous multinational and other internationally active companies throughout the U.S. with respect to a wide variety of immigration-related issues. Kelly McCown is a partner and co-founder of McCown & Evans LLP in San Francisco, and is certified as a specialist in immigration & nationality law by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. Since 2004, Ms. McCown has been honored each year as a "Northern California Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics Magazine and was recognized in 2007 as one of the "Top 50 Female Super Lawyers" in Northern California across all legal specialties. She is a member of the AIC Board of Trustees and past chair of the AILA Northern California Chapter, and a director with the Bank of San Francisco. 4 Michael P. Nowlan is a member and Immigration Law Practice Group Co-Leader with Clark Hill, PLC in Detroit, Michigan. A 1992 graduate of Eastern Michigan University and a 1996 graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Michael has written and lectured extensively on immigration matters, and is an active member of AILA. Michael has served as the Michigan AILA Chapter Chair ( ), and currently sits on both the AILA National Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Business Immigration Committees. Julie Pearl is a graduate of Stanford (BA), Harvard (MPA) and University of California (JD), Julie has been voted among the Nation s Top 10 Immigration Attorneys by HR Executive Magazine readers (2009). She founded her awardwinning law firm in 1995, along with former INS Commissioner Alan Nelson. Within three years, she co-founded ImmigrationTracker ( Tracker Corp ), which soon became the technology of choice in the field. Julie has been invited to speak at dozens of HR, Legal, IT and business conferences. She collaborates with a team of Silicon Valley companies to benchmark best emerging practice for US employers in adapting to electronic I-9s, E-Verify and global immigration. Anastasia received a B.A. from Indiana University and a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame.
