7 EVENTS Tampa, FloRIDa Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18 Maya Soetoro-Ng, Senator Barack Obama s sister, will attend two campaign events in the Tampa Bay Area including a Women for Obama reception and a meeting with educators at the Pinellas Classroom Teacher s Association office. Maya is currently a teacher at La Pietra, a high school for girls in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she teaches world cultures and U.S. history and the Constitution. Maya is also a lecturer at University of Hawaii s College of Education where she teaches multi-cultural education and the history of education. New York CITy, New York Thursday, July 10 Lunch with Maya Soetoro-Ng Many thanks to Maneesh Goyal for hosting lunch in New York City with Senator Obama s sister. Having grown up in Asia, India, and Hawai i Maya understands and knows the issues that confront the AAPI community and can be a very effective advocate for all of us. Orange County, CAlIFoRNIa Sunday, July 13 Reception with Senator Obama. Cyrus Amir-Mokri and Hassan Nemazee were able to put together on very short notice a very successful clutch reception with the Persian American and Iranian American communities 7

8 NATIoNAL AAPI/SOUTH ASIaN CONFERENCE CALL ON PLATFORM FOR CHANGE Sunday, July 20, 2008 Conference call number to be provided to registered participants 4:30 p.m. Pacific / 7:30 p.m. Eastern Asian Americans for Obama, South Asians for Obama, and Asian Pacific Americans for Progress are coordinating a nation-wide call on the Platform for Change. AAPIs will use this opportunity to share with Sen. Obama and the Democratic Party suggestions on specific AAPI/South Asian positions, recommendations and policies that should be addressed by the Democratic Party platform. Michael Yaki, National Platform Director, will be joining the call briefly to listen in. Invited participants include Obama AAPI Vote Director Charmaine Manansala, Obama AAPI Vote Deputy Director Betsy Kim, Asian Americans for Obama founder Ramey Ko, South Asians for Obama leader and Calif. CD8 team coordinator Anhoni Patel, APA for Progress board member Curtis Chin and AAPI Leadership Council member Cate Park. The results of this platform call will be incorporated into the formal process that culminates in the adoption of the platform at the Democratic Convention in August. A few participants may even be invited to appear and testify at the National Hearing and at the Convention! 8
