4 The Ohio State Journal Project Why? Historically significant Originally selected for National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) grant but could not be included How? Opportunity to apply for an Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) full grant in 2012 Applying NDNP standards

5 Grant Objectives Preserve Ohio State Journal for future generations of Ohioans Increase number of freely available resources for researchers to understand Ohio s history Develop and disseminate training for newspaper digitization

8 History Established 1811 as Western Intelligencer Moved to Columbus in 1816 and renamed Columbus Gazette Official reporting newspaper of Ohio General Assembly 1825: Became the Ohio State Journal and Columbus Gazette
