November 29, 2014 in Uncategorized There are only two aspects or legs needed to help every homeless individual stand on their own, in a sustainable way. The first is obvious; they need a dignified home that locationally reintegrates them back into society instead of segregates them to the side like regular shelters, encampments or micro-house developments. Even micro-house developments make the people staying in them feel separate and of a lower-class. The reintegrative approach has come to be known as scattered site housing and years of research has shown that individuals moved to so-called scattered site housing tend to fully reintegrate into mainstream society faster than those housed in large facilities or encampments. The second leg is not so obvious; homeless individuals NEED an outlet to positively contribute their purpose to society. An outlet to participate is essential to raising their self-esteem and allowing them to actually feel like they are becoming a part of society again. If you give a drug-addicted homeless individual only a home and no outlet, they will be far less likely to quit their addiction because the only way to stop a bad habit is to replace it with a good one. If the individual doesn t
9 quit their addiction then they are prone to eventually becoming homeless again. So, if we give homeless individuals some drug-free housing in exchange for them helping their neighborhood each day*, they will have the most likelihood of no longer being addicts or homeless ever again! Furthermore, the economic problem of neighbors being less able to afford and hire help like yard maintenance, auto repair, house cleaning, etc, is also solved! *It is absolutely imperative that individuals be allowed to help in whatever ways they want to otherwise it s like slavery! 1 Comment» by Admin Homeless prove they can manage a shelter by themselves! December 30, 2013 in Uncategorized An anonymous citizen has stepped forward to help the Ashland homeless by offering us a garage to sleep in. In exchange for our warm night sleep, we are simply asked to pay-it-forward each day by doing something good for the community or someone in the community. There have been 6-10 homeless playing floor tetris at this garage for the past couple of weeks. We have been able to maintain a desirable noise level at this garage by using our sound decibel meter that helps us realize when we are being too loud!

We work with a different church each year to collect the neighbors and the community s unwanted quality items and then we host a huge yard sale where everything is free of charge! We do these as yet another free public service to our Ashland community, but if people want to donate to our transparent box collections then that supports our continued efforts. Thank you to Jay Wolfman and the Alliance Bible Chapel for helping host this year s Free Rummage Benefit! Somebody donated a bunch of kids costumes that all the kids LOVED!

16 Almost every person who took something donated at least something and as usual we didn t solicite donations or give guilt trips! After the Rummage, we put the donation box back at our sales booth in the Artisan s Emporium to count/collect at a later date. May 7, 2013 in Uncategorized Downtown business Love Revolution and local artist Catie Faryl have teamed up in a creative way to support the Homefree Hostels project! Catie has created paper bag art with beautiful nude characters on them that she calls Bag Ladies! These original pieces of artwork are available downtown at the Love Revolution for just $3 each, $1 from each will go to the store, $1 will go to the artist herself and $1 toward the Homefree Hostels project. Thank you to Mitchell at Love Revolution and Catie for being so creatively supportive of the homeless!

20 Coop s box collected $46! The Music Bloomsbury collected $17, most importantly these businesses helped spread the word about this wholistic homelessness solution. Thank you to Karen and Anita at Bloomsbury and Brian and Trina at Music Coop for your community consciousness!
21 We deposited the $63 into the account at Umpqua Bank that Ruth Coulthard from the Peace House helped us open. We believe that all organizations, especially non-profits should be providing the level of transparency that we are showing to our Ashland community. Thank you for your support Ashland! 25 In return, the next day, I helped an elderly man that I know by running an errand to Bimart for a new blender because he depended on the old one to be able to consume food without teeth.
26 I brought him the new blender and he explained to me what part on his old one had broken. I then fixed him a banana/almond butter/yogurt smoothie and told him that I was paying-itforward that someone had helped me with a place
