Conference with labor negotiators. The City designated representatives attending closed session are: James Starbird, Yasmin Beers, Gillian van Muyden, Matt Doyle, Richard Kreisler, and Robert Elliot. The names of the employee organization is the Glendale City Employees Association. General Counsel-Redevelopment Gillian van Muyden indicated that she anticipated reporting out on Item 1A. The Agenda for the October 12, 2010, regular meeting of the Glendale City Council was posted on Thursday, October 7, 2010, on the Bulletin Board outside City Hall. 3. PRESENTATIONS AND APPOINTMENTS a. Agenda Preview for the Meetings of October 19, 2010 Assistant City Manager Yasmin Beers offered the updated report. b. Presentation of a $2,500 Check by the Commission on the Status of Women to the Police Department to Offer Hotel Vouchers to Victims of Domestic Violence Char of the Commission on the Status of Women Paula Devine, Commissioners Vatche D. Tashjian and Linda Goodman Pillsbury, and Administrative Associate Christine Baboomian, presented a check to Captain Michael Rock, Sergeant Harout Bouzikian, and Detective Ernesto Gaxiola. c. Proclamation Designating October, 2010, as Cultural Diversity Month Subject Proclamation was taken off calendar. d. Proclamation Designating October, 2010, as Fire Prevention Month Fire Marshal Jeffrey Halpert and Public Education Coordinator, Fire Department, Tanya Gregorian accepted the Proclamation and offered a presentation on smoke detectors. e. Appointment of Ms. Susan Hunt to the Commission on the Status of Women Drayman Ms. Hunt was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Ms. Goodman Pillsbury to expire April, 2011. CITY COUNCIL/STAFF COMMENTS Council Member Friedman commented that she was gone for a few weeks visiting Korea, representing the City of Glendale with a recognized NGO group program, and was able to visit the sister cities. Council Member Drayman indicated that last Sunday was the 9 th Annual Unity Fest where many people attended and participated, and it was a great event, thanking his colleagues for participating, especially his co-chair Council Member Friedman. He also attended the K-9 event at Verdugo Park which was for a good cause to raise funds for the next generation of K-9s. He promoted an upcoming event on Sunday, October 31, the Annual Montrose Spooktacular, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Council Member Quintero indicated that the Bob Hope Airport made a presentation to SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments) regarding the Regional Itermodal Transportation Center and it was very well received. He attended the Armenia Fund kickoff event for the anniversary of their Thanksgiving Day telethon. On Sunday, he also attended an event at the Veterans Center at Pasadena College, focusing on veterans from the Gulf War in Afghanistan. He stated that the Unity Fest kept getting better every year. The Wine and Roses event at Glendale Memorial was quite an event. Council Member Drayman requested that the appointment of Mr. Ara Hatamian to the Civil Service Commission, replacing Mr. Roy Coleman, be on next week s Agenda. Page 2 10-12-10
Mayor Najarian indicated that he had received a letter regarding the comment he made at last week s Council meeting about texting while driving. Mr. Art Rutledge, a Judge Pro-Tem, pointed out that it was not a traffic violation, but people would be cited. 5.
