OGDENSBURG BOROUGH BOARD OF EDUCATION Tuesday, Minutes The Regular Session of the Ogdensburg Board of Education is called to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Library/Media Center of the Ogdensburg School, 100 Main Street, Ogdensburg, New Jersey, 07439. OPEN PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE: Read by Mr. Rojas: "This is to advise the general public and to instruct that it be recorded in the Minutes that in compliance with Chapter 231 of the Public Laws of 1975, entitled the Open Public Meetings Act, Ogdensburg Board of Education, caused notice of this meeting to be posted at the Office of Ogdensburg Board of Education, mailed to the newspapers circulated in the district and to the Municipal Clerk of the Borough of Ogdensburg, and be posted at the Ogdensburg Elementary School and the school website, setting forth the time, date, and location of this meeting." OPEN SESSION #1 Ms. Cooke read the attached letter to the board, staff and members of the public. Ms. Reeth announced the students achievements in the Math league. Commendable. She gave a list of 17 questions to the board, mostly from seventh students, regarding the Wallkill Valley Algebra program. Mr. Gaugh discussed the costs of the Main Entrance Security Upgrade. P/P 101 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approves Mr. Earl Hornyak and Ms. Cindy Gunderman as chaperones for the 8 th Grade Formal on June 5, 2015 at $100.00 stipend for each. 2
P/P 102 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approves Ms. Michelle Cooper to attend the NGSS Classroom Practices K-12 professional development workshop on July 6-10, 2015 at the registration fee of $450 and mileage of $79.89. P/P-103A RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approves the appointment of Mr. Dominick J. Demsak Jr., (part time substitute custodian), as the new part time Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds effective July 1, 2015 with schedule of 27.5 hours per week at the annual salary of $41,250 for the 2015/16 school year and contingent upon annual physical as required by Standard Operating Procedures for New Hires approved on January 6, 2015. P/P 104 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, promotes Mr. Earl R. Hornyak, from part time to full time custodian effective July 1, 2015 at the annual salary of $35,838 for the 2015/16 school year. P/P 105 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approves summer custodial employment for Ms. Victoria Hartigan, Ms. Kelsey Murray and Mr. Thomas Washer as full time custodians and Mr. Shane Baker as part time custodian (15 hours per week) during the 2015 summer at $13.86 per hour, upon criminal history background clearance as required by P.O. 1986, C.116. P/P 106 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education approves the submission for approval of Acting Administrator per N.J.A.C. 6A:9-14.1 for Ms. Marilyn Cuykendall, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, during July and August of the 2015/16 School Year. P/P 108A RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education appoints Mr. David Astor, as Superintendent/Principal (CSA) of the Ogdensburg School District, according to the terms and conditions of the attached, five-year contract, with salary of $127,500 for the 2015/16 school year, effective July 1, 2015. RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, approves the Use of School Facilities for Ogdensburg Recreation Association to conduct their basketball program using the school gym and other school facilities, with custodial support on Saturdays, during the 2015/16 school year. RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education, approves the transfer of $38,395.00 from Capital Reserve to Capital Projects for completion of the Communications Project, SDA Grant #G5-5860, Project #: SDA3840-050-13 G2QW, with the final project cost of $63,991.00 and state reimbursement of $25,596.00 4
F/F - 75 F/F 76 TABLED RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education awards the Main Entry Security Upgrades Project to Edge Property Maintenance, Inc. 10 W. Thomas Street, Wharton NJ 07885 for $58,345.00, and Alternate No. 1 Completion of Proper Footings for $12,000, with final completion for all work as of August 15, 2015 and according to the terms and conditions of the bid contract. Edge Property Maintenance was the only bid received. TABLED RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education approves the transfer of $12,000.00 for Alternate #1 of the Main Entrance Security Upgrades and $2,500.00 for GA Architects to supervise the project from Capital Reserve to Capital Outlay to support the Main Entrance Security Project from the 2014/15 school year. F/F 77 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education approves the transfer of General Fund estimated surplus fund balance of $31,464 and Debt Fund surplus fund balance of $19,210 to the 2015/16 school year. F/F 78A RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education approves the transfer of up to $27,732 from surplus fund balance to cover deficits in the 2014/15 school year budget incurred by the loss of $27,732 of Choice State Aid during the 2014/15 school year. F/F 79 RESOLVED, that the Ogdensburg Board of Education accepts, on behalf of the Ogdensburg Elementary School s graduating classes, the Wayne Ingerto Award, rewarding a graduating eighth grade student who exemplifies the characteristics, ethics, and values of Mr. Ingerto. Specifically, this student will have demonstrated exceptional stewardship to the greater Ogdensburg community and pride in the care and upkeep of the school building and grounds; THEREFORE, the Ingerto family will donate $50 as an award to a graduating eighth grade student, each year through June 2023 (the current Kindergarten class); a $400 total donation. Mr. Earl Hornyak, current physical education teacher and Ogdensburg resident, is the family s designee to select the recipient of this award each year. Ms. Cooke commented on the adoption of the Wayne Ingerto Graduation Award and was very pleased that he is to be remembered. Mr. Rojas attended his going away party with many town folks attending. Great time. Mr. Gaugh wanted to compliment Ms. Paolazzi, Ms. Sears and Ms. Telischak for the Girls on the Run event. 5
EXECUTIVE SESSION MOTION presented by Mr. Rojas, and seconded by Mr. Egan to accept the following declaration of Executive Session as presented @ 7:10 p.m.: BE IT RESOLVED that the Ogdensburg Board of Education adopts the following resolution: "WHEREAS, The Open Public Meeting Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 permits the exclusion of the public from a meeting in certain circumstances; and WHEREAS, Ogdensburg Board of Education is of the opinion that such circumstances presently exist; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Ogdensburg Board of Education, County of Sussex, State of New Jersey that a closed session of this Board of Education, where the public shall be excluded, will be held at this time for the purpose as stated below; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that any action of the Board with regard to the closed session discussions shall be disclosed to the public at a later date and to the extent that the same is not prejudicial to the interests of the parties involved and would not result in a possible invasion of their right to privacy."
