Dan Krause Dan Kraus is a Senior Conservation Biologist with the Nature Conservancy of Canada s (NCC) national office. He is an expert on Canadian biodiversity, conservation and landscape ecology. He has recently written reports on freshwater conservation and conservation strategies for all four Canadian Great Lakes. He prepared the first conservation assessment on the Great Lakes islands. He applies his knowledge of nature to help identify priority areas and increase awareness about Canada s biodiversity. Previously, Dan was an ecologist with Parks Canada and an environmental consultant. Freshwater Futures: Status, trends and conservation needs of Canada Canadians have more freshwater than almost every other nation on Earth. Despite this abundance, some parts of Canada are faced with water quality and water security issues that impact the health of ecosystems and our quality of life. Dan will share global, national and local perspectives on our freshwater, and what we all must do to protect and conserve our most essential natural resource. The Carolinian (deciduous) forest covers only 1 % of Canada s land area but is home to about 20 % of species at risk in the country. In what part of Ontario is it found? 2
