Mr. Pierce (IO) 1.1 Roll Call (AI) 1.2 Adoption of Agenda (IO) 1.3 Recognition of Visitors (IO) 1.4 Special Presentations (IO) 1.5 Request to Speak Kim Mitchell and BSE Students Bonner Springs Elementary Presentation Individuals interested in speaking to the Board are welcome to present ideas or concerns regarding USD 204. Pursuant to the Kansas Open Meetings Act, (K.S.A , et seq), patrons, parents, employees and students have the right to attend and observe the meetings of the Board of Education. However, individuals may speak and participate in meetings only to the extent allowed by the Board. An Intent to Address the Board form must be completed prior to the Meeting and must be given to the Clerk. Comments are limited to five minutes. Public comments shall be respectful. Failure to observe the requirements may result in loss of the privilege to address the Board at this and future meetings. The Board appreciates patrons taking time to talk to us about our policies and procedures. We set aside this time to hear from the public. Your comments should be directed towards board policies or the procedures our administrators establish to carry out those policies. Please understand, this is not an appropriate time or place for patrons to make comments of a personal nature about any district employee or student. Persons making comments which violate the privacy rights of district employees will be asked to terminate their remarks. If a patron or parent has a concern with an employee of the district, the Board will refer that person to the appropriate employee or the Superintendent. If the Board refers the concern to an administrator for investigation, the Board will hear about it in a future meeting and you can expect the Superintendent or another district employee to make arrangements to meet with you at the appropriate time. 1 Page

2 (AI) 2.0 Approval of Minutes from meeting of March 18, Mr. Pierce (AI) 3.0 Approval of Warrant Register and Bonner Springs YMCA Reserve Report...Mr. Pierce Old Business (IO/AI) 4.1 Reading Series Mr. Pierce (Refer to Dr. Porter) Nine teachers were selected by principals to serve on the Elementary English Language Arts/Reading Textbook Adoption committee in November. These 9 teachers, representing all grade levels and buildings, completed two extensive rubrics to narrow their choices. One of these rubrics is a nationally developed and normed rubric used to analyze the components of elementary reading series. These rubrics narrowed their choices to two finalists, Into Reading and My View. The committee then heard presentations from both companies, asked questions and encouraged all elementary classroom teachers to teach lessons from each of the two finalists. Sample kits, provided by each company, were available to all teachers for two weeks in each building. All elementary classroom teachers were asked for feedback, by committee members. The committee chose Into Reading 2020 as the best fit for our district and they developed a training schedule for all teachers for the school year. (IO) 4.2 CTE Update / Elementary Support Services Update.....Mr. Pierce (Refer to Mrs. Hoffine and Dr. Porter) Mrs. Hoffine will provide the BOE with an update regarding the CTE (Career and Technical Education) program in USD 204. Dr. Porter will provide the BOE with an update regarding the elementary support services provided in the areas of PE, Art and Music in USD 204. New Business (AI) 5.1 Head Start Contract Renewal......Mr. Pierce (Refer to Mr. Hansen & Mr. Brungardt) District Administration has been working with Head Start officials from USD 500 in an effort to finalize the new contract for the new program year. While USD 500 deals with multiple sub-organizations to administer the Head Start program, our contract term still runs on an April 1 through March 31 Fiscal Year which doesn t align with many of their other subsidiaries. Regardless, officials from USD 500 are presenting their master plan to 2 Page

3 their Board of Education on Tuesday, April 9 and are requesting final approval by the USD 204 BOE on Monday, April 8. After reviewing the preliminary contract received from USD 500, District Administration worked with officials from Thomas McGee (the district s P&C Broker) to review the insurance and liability requirements. Many of the initial insurance limits outlined in the contract were in excess of the district s current coverage levels. However, after presenting the district s levels to USD 500, they agreed to incorporate our limitations; thus that piece of the contract will be revised once a final agreement document is received from USD 500. District Admin. is recommending approval of the Final Head Start Contract for FY2020. (AI) 5.2 Concrete Bid Info...Mr. Pierce The maintenance department sent out bids specs for four projects. The district received bids from four different construction companies. District administration is requesting that Board of Education approve the following projects and award the contracts to contractors below: Bus Barn Garage Approach--Freeman Construction: $31, Batting Cage & Alt Bid- Baker Construction: $16, Walking Trail -Rock Hard Concrete Design: $37, (AI) 5.3 Request to Recruit...Mr. Pierce USD Approved Field Trips During the school year students participate in educational field trips. All field trips need to be approved by the building principal and superintendent. The district pays for transportation and parents are notified in advance of the field trip. Non-Sanctioned Field Trips Non-sanctioned field trips organized by employees acting as independent contractors/agents involving students on a volunteer, self-supporting basis are not approved by the board and are not considered a part of the curriculum. Total responsibility for privately planned field trips or tours rests with the individual(s) and agency sponsoring them. The district assumes no legal or financial responsibilities for non-sanctioned field trips Magan Harrell, CMS social studies teacher, is taking a trip to the Dominican Republic in March, 2020 during the week of Spring Break (March 16-20). The trip is eight days long, including travel days. Mrs. Harrell is using the EF travel company, a company that teachers in USD 204 have used for years. There will be an EF tour guide with the group during the trip. The cost is $2,960 for students and $3,410 for adults. 3 Page
