2 Unfinished Business 1. Westhope Church: Betty Eastham reported no change from last month. She had investigated Calvary in San Jose but there were issues with that facility also. Nancy Wills suggested trying Campbell Community Center. It was decided to wait and hope for improvement at Westhope. 2. Schedules for the new year: Betty Eastham is awaiting the Quilting 101 schedule from Ileane Hassel. She has until September to finalize the dates. New Business September Potluck: Betty Eastham has offered to host at her house. It will start at 6 pm followed by the board meeting at 7 pm. Participants are asked to bring any dish they would like to share, Betty will provide beverages. Shelagh will send an invitation to the incoming board members. Committee Reports Treasurer (Jane Wegner) The report had been received. In response to a question, Jane explained that the boutique income totals shown were after sales tax had been taken out. Website (Patty Hair) No report. Parliamentarian (Pat Cox) On the Member Interest Form, it was agreed to replace Sew In with Quilt Til You Wilt, Philanthropy with Community Quilts, and remove Website. Once the form is finalized, Pat will send it to Patty for posting on the web site. Motion: That Small Quilt Groups be renamed Friendship Groups. Proposed by Joyce Tachner, seconded by Nancy Wills. The motion failed on a vote. During the discussion, it was felt that the small groups need to have a say in any name change. There are currently five open small groups which are listed in the Corrections will be shown in blue. Page 2 of 5

3 newsletter along with information on where they meet, cost, etc. Suggestions as to how to promote the groups included having a table for their representatives at the general meetings, announcing the groups and having them talk at each meeting. Lack of participation may be more of a communication problem than a name change issue. Further discussion is needed, and it might be beneficial to appoint a committee chair to coordinate the groups. Memberships (Nancy Wills) Nancy reported 439 members of which 13 are affiliates. Renewal forms will be available at the July meeting and posted on the web site. Membership interest forms will also be available. Community Quilts (Jean Richards) Lucile Packard Children s Hospital has introduced lots of new requirements for donated quilts making it harder to continue to donate to them. It will be up to the new coordinator to whom the quilts are offered. There will be an article in the newsletter asking for someone to head up this group. Meanwhile Jean is continuing so as to preserve the Camden Community Center rooms for future use. Newsletter (Randa Mulford) Shelagh complimented Randa on the great job she is doing. She will continue as editor for a second year. Programs (Isabel Rodriguez, Andrea Fleiner, Joni Strother, Gayle Visher) Andrea gave a report on the Hilde Morin weekend workshop held in June. 20 people paid and 18 showed up. Although there were some cancellations, it was hard to find people on the waiting list able to fill in. Andrea spent a lot of time waiting for people to reply. In future she will the entire waiting list and the first responder gets the spot. The event was held on a weekend in response to requests from those who work during the week, but it was not clear if any attended. A similar thing had happened when this was tried in the past. 4 However, it was felt that it was worth trying a weekend occasionally as the SCVQA population changes. Gayle is having computer issues and advised people to call her if the matter is important. Volunteers have signed up for the July Summer Camp. Water will be provided either as bottles or refillable cups, but members and guests may also want to bring their own water bottles to fill and maybe a sunhat for shopping in the sunny quad. Gayle is producing a large map showing the location of each workshop and where to buy a bag for the boutique sale. The only formal activity will be the vote for new board members. Isabel reported Judy Coates Perez class is half filled (September) and Christa Watson s class has 6 spots left (August). Ways and Means (Joyce Tachner) There are 75 boxes of stuff for the Summer Camp bargain boutique which will be left in the boxes for buyers to rummage through. Preview starts at 8:30 am and the sale at 9 am, continuing during the demos. Members and guests will be directed to the cashier who will hand them a marked bag on payment of $15. It has taken much work and planning so it is hoped that sales will be very good. Anything not sold will be donated to the women s shelter or Goodwill. Facilities (Betty Eastham) There was a safety issue at the last general meeting. Someone tripped over an electrical cord that the custodian had taped to the floor. Betty will talk to the church office manager to see if we could use floor cord covers without causing liability issues. Corrections will be shown in blue. Page 4 of 5
