1 The Viborg-Hurley School Board met on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the Hurley building, at 7:00 p.m. Board members present: Allen Ehrke, Charles Kludt, Peggy Mach, Scott Vannorsdel President Peggy Mach called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Motion to adopt the agenda: Allen Ehrke Motion to approve board minutes from March 9, 2015: Charles Kludt Motion to approve bills as presented: Scott Vannorsdel March, 2015 Payroll: General Fund: $140, Special Ed Fund: $ 11, Enterprise Fund: $ 2, Total March: $154, Motion to approve Business and Financial Reports: Allen Ehrke Mr. Sylliaasen reported to the board. Viborg-Hurley fourth graders attended the Water Festival. Congratulations to the fourth graders and Mr. Brinkman; they were awarded fourth place and received a $75.00 gift certificate to Teaching Treasures. Business Manager reported to the board. Continental Western issued the district a dividend check; based on total premiums from 2013, compared to workman s compensation claims. Refund was $1, Thanks to all staff members of the district for following safety procedures.

2 Interest earned on the Earl K. Emma V. Selken Sorensen scholarship in 2014 calendar year is $7, Current balance on the investment is $106, Trust and Agency account balance as of March 31, 2015 is $25, (The Trust and Agency Account balance is available to the board to determine on an annual basis how much to distribute as scholarships). Claims have been submitted and approved for the Homeland Security Grant. $22, was deposited to the Capital Outlay Fund on March 3, Long s Propane bid was accepted at the beginning of fiscal year at approximately 30,000 gallons of propane at $1.33. District has purchased approximately 14,000 gallons; Longs Propane lowered the cost on the last load to $1.10 a gallon. Thank you to Longs Propane. A reminder to the residents of the Viborg-Hurley north and south areas. Nominating Petitions may now be circulated, through May 8, Pioneer Memorial Hospital has submitted their annual contract for the school year. Salaries have increased to $29.00 an hour. (Current year contract is at $28.00 an hour). Motion to approve contract with Pioneer Memorial & Health Services: Scott Vannorsdel Middle School Principal would like to thank the FFA students and Mr. Rist for their help at the Middle School Dance held on March 1, The Smarter Balance Testing has been completed; results should be back soon. High School Principal reported to the board. Mid terms are April 15, Viborg police officer, Mike DeNeui will be talking to the 9-12 students about drinking and driving. Prom is April 25, 2015; the grand march is at 6:30 p.m. The All State Jazz Band will be in Rapid City May 8 th through the 10 th. Graduation is May 16, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. Congratulations to Alyssa Peterson for being chosen to participate in the All State Jazz Band. Drivers Education cost and time will be determined by the administration in the near future. Information will be available on the school web site at that time. Mr. Sylliaasen reported to the school board. Fire Marshall has completed the annual inspection of both buildings. Muffins for Mom is May 7, 2015; all donations will be used for the purchase of elementary play ground equipment at the Viborg site. Title I information was shared during the Donuts for Dad. Administration would like to thank the Viborg-Hurley staff members for their professionalism and support given during the past week; when the district had very sad news on one of our elementary students. Administration and the board offer their condolences to the family.

3 Motion to accept resignations from Debra Andersen, Matthew Brinkman, and Craig Rothschadl: Allen Ehrke Board reviewed ASBSD Summary on the completed legislative session. School districts will receive a 2% PSA increase in state funding. Mr. Sylliaasen recommended to the board to have the gym floors in both buildings refinished to reflect the newly consolidated districts Cougar mascot. The gym floors are in need of refinishing as both have reached the recommended time frame to receive this work. Gym floors will be refinished this summer.
