Vice-Chair Jim Lagree: Nothing specific to report. c. Treasurer Drew Lowery: Treasurer s report sent to the Secretary. Provided a budget breakdown for each of the Chapters and Committees. d. Secretary Dan Wilson: Treasurer s report received from the Treasurer and will be attached to the minutes. e. Upper-Mon Subsection Gianfranco Doretto: Nothing to report. f. Assistant Treasurer Navid Binesh: Nothing specific to report. 4. Election Lou Hart: Working on a bulletin update proposing the election timeline for Committees: 1. Student Activities Irvin Jones: [Update from Jeff Josephs] provided a proposal regarding having a student representative to the ExComm, defining roles and responsibilities. 2. PACE Joe Cioletti: Career development evening will be held. Location to be determined. In conjunction with the Employment Network. Keith Grislack has agreed to come to Pittsburgh for a meeting. 2 3. Bulletin Phil Cox: Deadline for the bulletin is Monday, July 20 th. 4. Website Gerry Kumnik: Everything was updated for July. Checked the links for the chapters and they looked OK. 5. Membership Development Steve Mozelewski: Nothing specific to report. 6. Publicity Tom Dionise: Engineers Week at Carnegie Science Center earlier in the year; science fair judges; Intel Science and Engineering Fair provided judges (Kal Sen, Phil Cox) 7. Awards & Recognition Ralph Sprang: Nothing specific to report. Chapter Reports: 1. Communications Balaji Palanisamy (Chair), Phil Cox (Secretary): Nothing specific to report. 2. Components, Packaging and Mfg Technology / Electron Devices Russell Dudek: Need to determine who will be the chair. Lou Hart took an action item. 3. Computer Ralph Sprang: Fall meeting still on track speaker was in the hospital. 4. Engineering in Medicine and Biology Wei Wang: No update bounced for the transmittal of the agenda for the month. 5. Electromagnetic Compatibility Mike Oliver: Nothing to report. 6. Industry Applications/Power and Energy Society Dave Vaglia (Chair), Steve Dobos (Vice Chair): High Performing Chapter, award of $740. WQED studio tour / antenna tour occurred; 29 people attended. Potential for a tour of just the antenna in a few months. Lumination Technologies presentation on the 18 th of August. Steve Dobos and Dave Vaglia are headed to Denver to the PES conference will attend sessions on electric vehicles, photovoltaic cells, and insulated conductors. 7. Power Electronics Society Kal Sen: Nigel McQuin presented a high-speed traction motor designed for the 300+mph electric land-speed-record car 11 members and 4 guests; next talk scheduled for August 27 th at Westinghouse Energy Center Monroeville; vice chair attending a conference; Kal is visiting IEEE Houston section to give a talk, along with PES Denver conference; 8. Magnetics Matt Moneck: Nothing to report. 9. Nanotechnology Minhee Yun: Nanotechnology chapter is inactive and Jim Beck was notified. 10. Robotics Gene Kern: Nothing specific to report. Working on meetings for the fall. 11. Signal Processing Deniz Gencaga: Distinguished lectures at CMU; nothing additional to report. 12. Society of Social Implications of Technology Joe Kalasky: Nothing to report. 13. Council of Electronic Design Automation Xin Li: Three sections involved including Pittsburgh; few meetings planned in the next few months; Chair to come to Pittsburgh to do a presentation; competition of undergraduate students from Pitt and CMU. 2 IEEE Pittsburgh Section - Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
3 Affinity Reports: 1. Young Professional (YP): Picnic coming up, will try to schedule and get a time / location for the picnic. 2. Women in Engineering (WIE): Looking for a new chair posted in the bulletin; chair does not need to be female. 3. Employment Network Louis Hart (acting): Looking to set up an event to fill openings in companies. Will have a joint meeting with PACE. Need to line up another meeting potential to use the picnic as a networking event. New Business: 1. Nomination committee for the 2015 election was formed Joe Cioletti, Joe Kalasky, and Kal Sen will be on the committee, along with Lou Hart (chairman) [from Jim Beck] 2. September is the deadline for defining the ballot for the 2015 election, as filtered by the Nomination Committee [from Jim Beck] 3. A vote was held and passed to add the position for the Student Representative to the ExComm. A nominee for this position will be held next meeting. Public and member comments: New Action Items: 1. Dan Wilson to add Xin Li to the ExComm distribution 2. Drew Lowery to send an to the R2 treasurer (Wolfram) asking about the reimbursement for IEEE USA. 3. Jeff Josephs to determine a nominee for the Student Representative to the ExComm. 4. Jim Beck to determine if the Student Representative to the ExComm will have any limitations regarding voting, etc. 5. Lou Hart to determine who is the Chair of the CPMT/ED chapter. 6. Jim Beck to determine if Wei Wang is still the chair of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology 7. Steve Dobos to create a proposal for audio devices for tours to enhance ability to hear on tours. 8. Steve Dobos to select a few pictures from the WQED tour to place in the bulletin 9. Jim Beck to check if Nanotechnology is still a chapter in vtools. Ongoing Action Items: 1. Closed. Lou Hart to form the search committee for the election for 2016 officers by September [Search committee was formed.] 2. Dan Wilson to update vtools to show Lou Hart as Chair of the CPMT/ED Chapter 3. Dan Wilson to look at the L31s for the Signal Processing meetings held on March 2, 3 4. 4 5. Closed. Drew Lowery to IEEE regarding the rebate we received and the corresponding breakdown of the rebate. [Rebate was received including breakdown; included 10% bonus for early submission.] 6. Closed. Drew Lowery to determine the IEEE requirements for retaining hardcopy records versus electronic records. [Paper copies need to be kept for 7 years for auditing purposes after which they can be destroyed.] 7. Closed. Irvin Jones to provide Jim Beck an regarding expenses from the Student Activities Conference. [The section provided a donation.] 8. Closed. Jeff Josephs to work with Irvin Jones to develop a proposal for a student member at large on the Pittsburgh Section ExComm similar to other sections. 9. Lou Hart to line up a distinguished lecturer for Electron Devices or Components Society 10. Closed. Jim Beck to provide an update on WIE 11. Closed. Joe Cioletti to follow up on any actions the section can take regarding H1B visas. [will see if the information can be published in the bulletin].
