In this capacity I often assist with the development of research skills in NGO employees and community representatives from historically challenged backgrounds. Briefs that were executed included the following areas: Rural and urban development work in Gauteng (urban province) and KwaZulu Natal (rural province); Policy research on issues related to land reform, urban local government restructuring, science and technology policy, constitutional negotiations, elections monitoring and conflict management, and Managing and coordinating research and facilitating election monitoring programmes for European parliamentarians and leading politicians from the SADC region. Clients included the Development Bank of Southern Africa, the African National Congress, Planact (an urban local government and planning NGO), the National Land Committee (NGO), the Rural Foundation, the Association of European Parliamentarians/African European Institute and others. Researcher: Centre for Policy Studies Managed the Outreach/ lobbying component of the CPS in the Office of the Deputy Director Co-ordinated a research project on inner-city decay, and the needs and uses for public amenities is Central Johannesburg. Worked on projects that: - Looked at how government perceived advocacy efforts from the private sector; - Monitored urbanisation trends; - Investigated alternatives forms of national service to military service

Consultant to the Wilgespruit Fellowship Centre under a USAID grant (Democracy and Governance Programme) to undertake research into conflict resolution and public participation practices in local government in Mpumalanga and the North West province. This resulted in the development of training manual for Local government officials on design and facilitation of participatory decision-making processes and community involvement for development purposes. Conceptual study on monitoring and evaluation related terminology to assist with role clarification for the Gauteng Provincial Service Commission in terms of these structure assuming its new role as prescribed by the New Public Service Commission System (1998). This document served as the basis for the National Land Committee and its affiliates in engaging with Land Reform policies of the new government.
