Contact: If you have any questions about this structure, please contact the History Office: history.administrator@manchester.ac.uk Regulations: All Level 4 HRUSS students must take RUSS51050 All Level 4 HRUSS students must take a dissertation (students can only take one dissertation module) All Level 4 HRUSS students must choose 60 additional of optional course units (Lists C-E) After following Steps 1 to 5 below, all Level 4 HRUSS students must have: Total selection of exactly 1 A minimum of 40 RUSS-coded modules A minimum of 40 History modules, which can include HIST30970 (although, HIST30970 can only be taken by students also enrolled on a minimum of HIST-coded taught ) and all modules listed in Lists D and E. Course units which do not clash check the timetable The semester in which a course is taught is identified by the last digit in the code (eg HIST10101 = Sem. 1). A 0 (zero) final digit indicates the course is taught across both semesters. Note on Allocation of Across Semesters and HIST30970: Students may take 60 of taught course units in Sem. 1 and in Sem. 2, or 40 of taught courses in each semester. Students may not take 60 of taught course units in Sem. 2. Students must plan their dissertation research schedule appropriately, and in consultation from welcome week onwards with their appointed dissertation supervisor. HIST30970 dissertation supervision is linked to a HIST-coded taught module upon which the student must be enrolled. Allocation will be based on the completion of a survey in July / August in which the student must rank, in preference order, the HIST-coded modules upon which they are enrolled at that time. ND = No Dissertation : a course whose director will not be available to supervise dissertations in 18-19, due to Research Leave. Please note that swapping or dropping full-year optional modules is prohibited after week 2 of semester 1. For subject areas elsewhere in the University, the course unit must be at Level 3. With the permission of BOTH your Academic Advisor and Programme Director students studying at Post A-Level language (if studying two languages both must be Post A-Level) can select LEAP course units (units offered by the University Language Centre) provided that no more than three languages are studied in any one year. LEAP units must be applied for directly through the LEAP office. You can only take LEAP units coded at your current level of study. E.g. Level 1 ULFR10010, Level 2 - ULFR110, Level 3 ULFR Your performance on LEAP will be monitored, and, where relevant, you may be advised to discontinue with the study of the additional language in the subsequent year of study at the recommendation of your Academic Advisor or Programme Director. 5
