1 275 Pinoy voters sa Kuwait, hindi nakaboto; bilang puede pang madagdagan Donaire takes on Bedak SUNDAY, APRIL 24, 2016 Christ is the Answer church Kuwait celebrates 20th versary Page 05 Rights complaint filed after Philippine candidate s remark MANILA: Representatives of women s groups filed a complaint recently at the Commission on Human Rights against the front-runner in the Philippine presidential race for his remark about wanting to rape an Australian missionary who was assaulted and killed by prisoners during a hostage-taking in The complainants said Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte violated a law protecting women s rights through a string of actions, including his rape comment. Duterte has topped recent voter surveys for the May 9 presidential election. At a campaign stop last week, Duterte said Australian Jacqueline Hamill, who was gang raped and killed during a 1989 prison siege, was so beautiful that he should have been the first to assault her. His supporters at the rally laughed and cheered, but the comment sparked a storm of criticism. AFP US, Britain warn citizens to stay off south Philippine area MANILA: The United States and Britain have warned their citizens to stay away from a southern Philippine region where suspected Muslim extremists are behind a wave of kidnappings, including those of 18 Indonesian and Malaysian tugboat crewmen. The U.S. State Department warned Americans in an advisory Thursday to defer non-essential travel to the Sulu archipelago due to the high threat of kidnapping of international travelers, increased threat of maritime kidnappings against small boats... and violence linked to insurgency and terrorism there. The British government on Wednesday issued a similar travel warning, citing, a high threat from terrorism, including kidnapping. Abu Sayyaf militants have been suspected of seizing the Indonesian and Malaysian crewmen at gunpoint in separate attacks on three tugboats in recent weeks, sparking security concerns in the region. Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines plan to convene a meeting of maritime officials to discuss ways to boost security along their sea borders, including using satellite technology to spot suspicious vessels and stop them before a possible attack. AP MANILA: Supporters cheer as the motorcade of front-running presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte passes by at Silang township, Cavite province south of Manila, Philippines on Friday. Trash-talking Philippine presidential favourite Duterte has warned he is prepared to cut diplomatic ties with the United States and Australia after their envoys criticised his comments about the jailhouse rape of a missionary. AP Top Philippine candidate pushes kill criminals message MANILA: Philippine presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte yesterday renewed his vow to kill criminals as the tough-talking favourite hit the stump in the capital heading into the home stretch of a controversial campaign. Seen by fans and foes alike as a real-life Dirty Harry from a southern city made infamous by shadowy vigilante death squads, the 71-year-old mayor of Davao is the surprise favourite in the race to succeed President Benigno Aquino. The drug pushers, kidnappers, robbers, find them all and arrest them. If they resist, kill them all, he told about 2,000 people who cheered and shook their fists during a central Manila rally shortly after midnight. Go ahead and charge me with murder, so I could also kill you. Duterte had earlier pledged to kill 100,000 criminals and dump so many in Manila Bay that the fish will grow fat from feeding on them. More than 50 million people in the mainly Catholic Asian nation are qualified to vote on May 9 with Duterte holding a clear lead over four other candidates, including Aquino s preferred successor. Analysts say Duterte s profanity-laced campaign resonates in a chaotic, high-crime society with limited opportunities for a vast underclass working for a tiny elite. This was despite having called Pope Francis a son of a bitch and making crass comments about the jailhouse rape of an Australian lay Christian missionary who was killed in a 1989 prison riot in Duterte s own city. The voting is not yet over, and we already have this huge number of voter complaints. We expect this number to multiply soon, so we have submitted the petition now, wika ni Dado. We are hoping to retrieve more names of voters and Comelec is helping us in this matter. So, while there is still time, I would like to appeal to every Filipino voter in Kuwait to come early, so if there are similar problems, we can still find a solution and retrieve your names, dagdag ni Dado. (Ang balitang ito ay lumabas noong April 19, 2016 sa Kuwait Times: Community/Independence Day KUWAIT: A small gathering of Filipino leaders in Kuwait was held yesterday at the Philippine Embassy in Faiha to announce the upcoming Independence Day events. Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Renato Pedro Villa chaired the said meeting focused mostly on preps and embassy participation on the community/diplomatic events. Philippine Consul General Raul Dado and Consul Jabbar Adiong attended the event. Philippine Independence Day event is held every June 12, however, the date falls on Ramadan month and any big celebration of such will not be suitable on fasting month. Thus, community events are now planned to be held earlier or before June 5. Date will be announced soon.

4 SUNDAY, APRIL 24, Donations for Kidapawan farmers from Filipinos in Kuwait, now en-route to beneficiaries By Ben Garcia KUWAIT: A total of four huge balikbayan boxes containing groceries including rice and canned goods were collected by OFW Aguila Movement sa Kuwait for Kidapawan farmers. At least three farmers were killed when the government forcedly dispersed protesters demanding government relief or rice supplies, earlier promised by the local government. The farmers were hardly hit by El-Nino phenomenon (severe drought). The farmers, around 6,000, staged protest for over four straight days, when scuffles and gunfire broke out last April 1. Kidapawan was one of many provinces severely hit by drought and was earlier declared by the government under the state of calamity. In support to the farmers, Filipinos in Kuwait, headed by OFW Aguila Movement launched a ten-day donation drive dubbed Bigas hindi Bala-Alay ng OFW Aguila Movement sa Kuwait. The ten-day donation drive according to the organizer was a huge success. Thank you very much for the support especially from individuals and organizations who responded to our call for help last April 1. We assure you that it will be given directly to the affected famers, said OFW Aguila Movement sa Kuwait President Neptune Cajes. The group also thanked Marivic Paradero of Tag Cargo, for the free shipping of all the collected donations to Kidapawan, including Jesse Bomediano, Ainle Sema Calolong, Rafael Lingad, Charry Antang, Lorena Momo, Michelle Natividad, Michelle A. 5 SUNDAY, APRIL 24, Christ is the Answer church Kuwait celebrates 20th versary KUWAIT: Christ is the Answer Church (CITA) Kuwait celebrated its 20th anniversary recently. The church started in 1995, founded by Bishop Jesse Candelaria in Angeles Pampanga. Now with other Outreach Ministries around the world, CITA continues to share the Gospel of Jesus and helps shape lives of its members through its bible-based teachings under the leadership of its Pastor, Jenovah Espiritu.

6 SUNDAY, APRIL 24, Election Fever Philippine voter data hacked but polls to go ahead MANILA: The hacking of a Philippine election database may have exposed the personal information of all 55 million registered voters, but will not undermine May 9 national elections, officials said Friday, in the latest hacking scandal to hit the Southeast Asian nation. They said government agents arrested a 23-year-old suspect, a recent graduate in information technology, late Wednesday at his home in Manila. Officials are searching for his alleged accomplices. Commission on Elections spokesman James Jimenez said the computerized elections will be run on a different server, not the one that was hacked, and that experts say the polls are unlikely to be compromised. The exposed data is feared to include voters names, birthdays, home addresses, , parents full names and in some cases passport details and text markers of fingerprints. A hacker group defaced the website of the election commission last month, and a second hacker group posted the entire database online, with mirror links where the data could also be downloaded, according to Internet security company Trend Micro. The Tokyo-based company first reported the breach on its website. The commission said it has shut down its website. Presidential spokesman Herminio Coloma condemned the cyberattack and said government agencies are working with the commission to strengthen its security. The government vowed to prosecute the perpetrators. Although verifications that have been made thus far have shown that the integrity of the automated election system has not been affected by the latest cyberattack, we share the public s concern on the ill-effects of this act, he said. Trend Micro said that with the breach, every registered voter in the Philippines is now susceptible to fraud and other risks. With 55 million registered voters in the Philippines, this leak may turn out as one of the biggest government-related data breaches in history, it said. The data dumps include 15.8 million records of fingerprints, it added. There are 54.3 million registered voters in the country and 1.3 million living overseas. Jimenez said the data did not CAVITE: Front-runner presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte talks to the media during a campaign sortie at Silang township, Cavite province south of Manila on Philippines Friday. The hacking of a Philippine election database may have exposed the personal information of all 55 million registered voters, but will not undermine May 9 national elections, officials said Friday, in the latest hacking scandal to hit the Southeast Asian nation. AFP photos include actual fingerprints, but text markers that cannot recreate fingerprints. Troy Hunt, an Australian Internet security expert, said it s difficult to know whether the election results will be put at risk, but that there were clearly egregious oversights by election officials which raise serious questions about their ability to protect their information systems. The hacking scandal comes amid an investigation into the cybertheft of $101 million from the Bangladesh central bank s account in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the money s transfer to the Philippines and Sri Lanka. A Philippine Senate inquiry has shown that $81 million was diverted to bank accounts created with fictitious names at a branch of a Philippine bank, consolidated and then shifted to Philippine casinos and junket operators through a local remittance company. -AP MANILA: This handout picture taken and released on April 23, 2016 by eaglenews.ph shows Philippine presidential front-runner candidate Rodrigo Duterte (L) meeting Iglesia Ni Kristo (Church of Christ) Executive Minister Brother Eduardo Manalo (R) at the Iglesia Ni Kristo s headquarters in Manila. MANILA : Philippine presidential front-runner candidate Rodrigo Duterte states his political platform during a campaign in Manila yesterday. Top Philippine candidate pushes kill criminals message Continued from Page 1 His April 12 comments, in which he suggested that as mayor he should have been the first in line to rape the victim, drew widespread public condemnation, including from the ambassadors of key allies the United States and Australia. The unrepentant candidate later told the envoys to shut up and steer clear of domestic politics, while also grudgingly issuing an apology over the rape comments. He has also vowed to hold direct talks with China to resolve overlapping claims in the South China Sea, in a reversal of Aquino s policy of multilateral discussions with other claimants and international arbitration. Prior to the Manila rally, Duterte met late Friday with Eduardo Manalo, chief minister of the conservative religious group Church of Christ to seek the support of the influential organisation, known by its initials INC. The group, which does not disclose its membership size, votes as one in line with what followers describe as biblical doctrines on unity. Politicians routinely make a beeline for its support during elections. I laid out my programme to fight crime, illegal drugs and corruption... Should God will me to win, I will fight for the rights as well as the religious freedom of millions of INC members, Duterte said in a statement. INC spokesmen confirmed the meeting Saturday. The Duterte meeting meant all four of the major presidential candidates have met with the INC leader. AFP

Donaire takes on Bedak CEBU CITY: Nonito Donaire Jr. hopes to use a bullet against Zsolt Bedak when they dispute the World Boxing Organization super bantamweight crown at Cebu City Sports Center yesterday (Saturday). Never in my (ring) career [have] have I felt his good, said Donaire. If before I come to fight at 70 percent, now it s 110 percent. It will be a battle of fighters boasting mean left hooks, but Donaire (36-2, 23 knockouts) feels his packs a lot more wallop. Parang may bala ang left hook ko (My left hook contains a bullet), said Donaire, confident of victory that could give him a crack at super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton or a grudge rematch with 2013 tormentor Rigondeaux. After squeezing through yesterday s weigh-in at pounds, Donaire told Manila-based sportswriters that he felt amazing and won t hesitate to go for the knockout if the opportunity comes. Bedak checked in slightly lighter at The five-division world champion known as The Filipino Flash said he felt during their staredown that the Hungarian challenger got a bit intimidated by his size and, perhaps, stature. Not only was Donaire two inches taller at 5-foot-6, the California-based pride of Talibon, Bohol, also owns better credentials as far as quality of opponents (Vic Darchinyan, Nicholas Walters, Rigondeaux) is concerned. I overwhelmed him with my energy and intensity, said Donaire. It was like I swallowed him up. Donaire, however, said he s not underestimating Bedak (25-1, 8 KOs).
