This course provides a broad introduction to Political Science - an overview of central political concepts, ideas and ideologies; knowledge of important institutions and processes. This study will explore the concept of politics. Politics is the art and science of managing and governing one s entire social, economic and statutory affairs. Political Science as the science, which is concerned with the state, politics and political system. This course will also focus on political thoughts of different political thinkers as well as Political structure of super powers. As a citizen we may know and learn about our political rights and privileges from a given form of government that includes the political structure and processes of our state. Without this knowledge we wouldn t know which rights we have and more importantly the battles 1

2 that were fought in order to award us these rights. Political Science deals with theory and practice of Politics, as well as the analysis of our political systems, behaviour and culture. COURSE OBJECTIVES This course will begin by introducing students to some of the basic theoretical concepts, ideas and political institutions in Political Science. It is broken down into several sub-disciplines; political theory, comparative politics, public administration, internal relations, public law, and political methodology. It is hoped that at the end of the course students will have a broader understanding and further curiosity of the political ideas and institutions. They should also be able to appreciate the importance and relevance of Political Science and International Relations. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to: Understand Political Science as a Discipline; Identify the fundamental Concepts of Political Science; Critically analyze Political Thoughts Understand Political Institutions Understand Politics and Political Process Analyze Political Parties and Pressure Groups Analyze Political System of UK, USA, China and Bangladesh. Individual tutorial and make-up examinations are generally arranged for disable and seriously sick or injured students. In addition to that other special facilities are also taken i.e. arranging examination at medical centre. University is committed to removing barriers to accessing learning and to providing an inclusive and equitable environment that fosters an experience of the highest quality for all students. All University staff, students, visitors are expected to treat people with disabilities with respect. If, however, an individual feels they have been discriminated against or harassed on the grounds of disability, they are encouraged to report the incident. Course Conduct Methodology: The course is based on Fundamentals of Political Science. The contents are covered by lectures, discussions and presentations by the students. Lectures are delivered in an interactive way and students must take part in it. For this, they are advised to go through the reading material before each class and participate during the class hours. Four class tests might be taken to know students understanding of the 10

11 lectures. Moreover, one group assignment and one individual term paper will be taken. Students must cooperate with each other and practice empathy in their behavior. They are expected to be punctual and attend the entire class. Disciplinary actions will be taken for any kind of violation of code of conduct. Plagiarism is an offence. Therefore, plagiarized work will be punished. Academic Honesty: Any form of academic dishonesty, whether cheating or plagiarism, undermines the value of grades for the entire student body and the University as a whole. It is an affront to every student who has labored to achieve success honestly and a threat to the University s reputation for academic excellence. For these reasons, the University does not tolerate any form of academic dishonesty. Any student attempting to gain an unfair advantage in a course will be severely penalized as per University policy. Course Discollegiate/ Drop-out Policy: As per University policy attendance for all classes is mandatory. Students should remember that they will not be allowed to take the final examinations unless they have at least 75% attendance and 65% with fine for noncollegiate. Below 65% will be withdrawn from the course. Policy on Grade Appeal: As per university policy Late Policy: As per University policy Make-up Procedures: Convenient time for both side.
