They perform the basis for further flexibility and just in case specializing as due response to specific requirements and needs of an ever changing labour market. Graduates having as a springboard their knowledge in subjects such as: Political theory Political sociology Political analysis Comparative politics Political and party systems International relations Management and administration (a subject this Department also focuses upon) Are well equipped either for a professional carrier or for further stuies
9 Following the successful completion of their studies, the Department s graduates in political science demonstrate skills to: 1. Critically understand fundamental concepts in politics and political science (regime, state, rights, freedom, political systems, and international politics). 2. Comprehend and critically approach the key pillars of political theory and political philosophy, including their historical evolution, both regarding theorists (indicative but not exclusively Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Rousseau, Mill, Marx, Rawls) and concepts (indicative but not exclusively security, freedom, dignity, conflict, reproduction, power, and authority). 3. Have a thorough knowledge of the main actors in the political arena (political parties, pressure groups, politically influential institutions) including their interaction as part of the process of policy making. 4. Classify political regimes including political and party systems in cross-comparative context. 5. Analyze political decisions.. Understand the complex interrelationship between party systems, electoral systems and election results. 7. Greek politics, party system and its historical development. 8. Political and Party Systems in the world. 9. Have a thorough knowledge of the main actors in the arena of international politics. 10. Understand and analyze international relations as part of the interplay between the actors of the international system including the link between domestic/national politics and international affairs. Graduates in Political Science Pathway/major demonstrate knowledge of: 1. Comprehending the, and elaborating on the issue of political events and developments (at both national and supranational level) by using main concepts and theoretical frameworks of political science. 2. Discussing contemporary political developments and introducing new theoretical approaches (including a reexamination of the work of classic theorists) to address political realities and turn of events. 3. Analyzing, explaining and commenting on political developments, including an update on the relations between the main political actors and players involved. Occasionally, if requested, offer consulting services to individuals and institutions regarding political forecasting. 4. Expressing thorough views on political regimes and the relative comparison between different political and party systems, including opinions on addressing the concepts of political stability and political development. Occasionally, if requested, offer consulting
10 services to individuals and institutions regarding political forecasting in the abovementioned areas. Graduates in Political Science Pathway/major demonstrate skills to: 1. Participate in opinion polls and surveys on political views. Following a successful entry-level term, being able to process and analyze polling reports. 2. Teach basic topics in political science. 3. Cooperate as project team members in research areas related to the study of politics. 4. Work at international level (governmental, non-governmental, non-profit) including members of the diplomatic corps and officials in international and supranational institutions. 5. Expressing views on (political) decisions taken including interventions in the framework of open and democratic dialogue for advancing the common good.. Election result forecasting. 7.
