7 Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted June 20-24, 2013, with a random sample of 2,048 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
8 Scary To measure overall knowledge levels, a core group of 23 of the 26 questions was used to form a knowledge index. Eight people out of the 1,502 respondents answered all 23 questions correctly. At the other end of the spectrum, five people failed to answer a single question correctly.
9 Age or Preference? Why do you think viewers of entertainment shows such as Colbert and The Daily Show are considered more knowledgeable? Is this survey biased? Forty-three percent of Colbert s audience is under the age of 30 and 39 percent of Jon Stewart s Daily Show audience falls into the same demographic. Yet those aged comprise 23 percent of the nation s total population. By contrast the bulk of Fox News s audience is 50 and over, comprising 66 percent of Sean Hannity s audience and 64 percent of Bill O Reilly s audience to name a few conservative-oriented programs.
