Instead, they were willing parties who were being smuggled into. takes a serious view on complaints and allegations of human trafficking cases, and all reported cases are followed up on. All substantiated cases will be investigated thoroughly. SPF has a dedicated unit which investigates into vice related offences, which include any possible cases of trafficking of women or commercial sexual exploitation. Officers from the unit are trained in interview techniques and translators are also present during the interviews whenever required. The thorough interview process on all persons suspected of being involved in vicerelated activities allows the officers to extract any potential information on human trafficking activities. In addition, has tough laws in place to protect a person against trafficking, exploitation, abuse and prostitution. Examples of our legislation include: i. Sections of the Penal Code which criminalize the act kidnapping and abduction. In particular, section 367 criminalizes the kidnapping/abducting of a person in order to subject him to grievous hurt, slavery, etc ii. Section 370 of the Penal Code which criminalizes the buying or disposing of any person as a slave; iii. Section 371of the Penal Code which criminalizes the habitual dealings in slaves; iv. Sections 272 and 273 of the Penal Code which criminalize the selling and buying of minors for the purpose of prostitution; v. Section 373A which criminalizes the importation of women by fraud with intent that such woman may be employed or used for prostitution; vi. Section 140 of the Women's Charter which prohibits a wide range of conduct, including the sale, hire or possession of women for the purpose of prostitution, and the procurement of women, the bringing into, receiving or harboring of such procured women and the detention of women against their will; vii. Section 140 of the Women's Charter prohibits trafficking in women; and vi. As some of the crimes committed by organized criminal groups may also be committed by individuals in non organized fashion, the units/task Forces in SPF, CNB and ICA that take charge of the investigation of crimes, drug and immigration offences committed by individuals are also responsible for the investigation and enforcement against offences committed by organized criminal syndicates. Hence, the statistics recorded by SPF, CNB and ICA reflect the total crime cases recorded for each offence; it does not differentiate between offences committed by organized groups and individuals.
