Short Description of the project Not Just Numbers: Youth Work, Migration and Asylum in Europe Not Just Numbers is an international youth capacity-building project aimed at strengthening co-operation and developing capacity of youth organisations in dealing with migration and asylum issues in the EU and Western Balkans. The project is built on a broad needs analysis conducted by members of the project consortium in their communities and responds directly to needs and problems of their target groups young people, notably those with fewer opportunities. The project is way to deepen and extend local activities in the fields of migration and asylum awareness conducted by consortium members in their countries. The main problems the project responds to are: low awareness of migration regulations in the EU and South-East Europe, prejudice and discrimination against migrants and asylum seekers and negative portrayal of migrants in the EU and Western Balkan countries. The project will create synergies between the fields of youth work, formal education and training, through co-operation with formal educational institutions in campaigning on migration and asylum matters. Specific objectives of the project are: to facilitate exchange of expertise on approaches to migration and asylum education in youth work, to train youth workers in using education tools developed by IOM and UNHCR (starting with the Not Just Numbers Toolkit), to develop a youth campaign raising awareness of migration and asylum issues, to promote further trans-national learning mobility and networking between youth organisations in the EU and Western Balkans. The project programme includes mobility activities (training of trainers and youth exchange) and capacity-building activities (large-scale youth event and an awareness-raising campaign). The project s main impact will be development of capacity of partner organisations in addressing migration and asylum issues in youth work, increased skills of youth workers, Page 2 of 8

3 raising awareness of migration and asylum rights, causes, consequences and impact among young people in the EU and Western Balkans, and increased co-operation of youth organisations in the EU and WB on migration and asylum matters. The project s outputs, including a good practice guide and awareness campaign, will be disseminated at two levels: locally by consortium members and Europe-wide by the project communications team. Dissemination measures will include local events involving young people, youth workers and other relevant stakeholders, in co-operation with local traditional media, as well as online dissemination tools including social media and websites, and offline dissemination of printed materials. Aims and Objectives of the project In simple words - our main aim is to help Europe deal with its migrant crisis through a joint effort of youth organisations across Western Balkans, EU and Turkey. We would like to do that by giving a chance to experienced professionals to exchange opinions (seminar), equipping trainers in tools and competences (ToT), giving young people from 10 countries a first-hand opportunity to learn about migration and to act in their communities, producing relevant resources (Good practice guide and toolbox), and then to use all of the project outputs to disseminate results by local events (to multiply them) and to raise awareness of migration issues in whatever aspect relevant in the 10 consortium countries (for some of them it will be freedom of movement, for others learning about migrant/refugee distinction, for others fighting discrimination or preventing trafficking), thus mainstreaming migration issues in youth work and wider society. Formal objectives of the project are: - to facilitate exchange of expertise on approaches to migration and asylum education in youth work, - to train youth workers in using education tools developed by IOM and UNHCR (starting with the Not Just Numbers Toolkit), - to develop a youth campaign raising awareness of migration and asylum issues, - to strengthen the capacity of consortium members in tacking migration and asylum issues - to promote further trans-national learning mobility and networking between youth organisations in the EU and Western Balkans. The project is directly linked to a number of Erasmus+ objectives and priorities, including: Page 3 of 8

4 - overall objectives of the renewed framework for European cooperation in the youth field ( ) namely active citizenship the project will actively involve young people across Europe to act on migration and asylum issues - promotion of European values in accordance with Article 2 of the Treaty on EU the project highlights the value of human rights (and migrant rights as part of these) - improving the level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, as well as to promote participation in democratic life in Europe the project with both directly (participation in YE) and indirectly (local dissemination activities undertaken by trainers and seminar participants) impact the lives of Europe s youth with fewer opportunities - fostering quality improvements in youth work the project will develop capacities of youth organisations to tackle migration and asylum issues - supporting the EU s external action Western Balkan countries Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania are on their way to join the EU, and are important partners of the EU in dealing with migration issues; this project will strengthen the capacity of civil society both in the EU and in WB to deal with those issues; Additionally, the project is relevant to other EU policies: - EU migration policy the project will help address education and and public awareness needs in terms of tackling the migration and asylum crisis; - EU freedom of movement the project will reinforce the belief that freedom of movement is a fundamental EU freedom and is beneficial to all citizens and neighbours of the EU PROJECT PROGRAMME AND SCHEDULE ToT activities are based on the principles of non-formal education and will include teambuilding, simulations, debates, working groups, evaluation session, theatre and creative workshops, project visits as well as Youthpass self-reflection and debriefing workshops. The ToT programme will start on Juine 30, 2016, in the afternoon. The ToT programme will end in the 7 th July. Participants should arrive in Pristina on 30 June. They can depart from Pristina on July 7. Daily activities will take place between 10 AM and 6 PM every day, with a lunch break and two coffee/tea breaks. Page 4 of 8

5 PARTICIPANT PROFILE Eligible participants must be youth workers, youth leaders or volunteers in youth organisations, interested in entrepreneurship, creativity and active citizenship. Good (spoken) English language skills required. LANGUAGE The language of the training course will be English. Participants should be able to communicate in English. THE VENUE The course will be held in the capital of Kosovo, Pristina. Information about accommodation and working space: Pristina, Kosovo s capital, is located in central-kosovo, 25 km from the Airport. Participants will be accommodated in a hotel situated in the North-West of Pristina. It takes approx. 15 min. by bus or min walk to the city centre of Pristina. Participants will be accommodated in double and triple rooms with shared bathrooms. Free Wifi is available at the hotel Participants will be accommodated in single-sex rooms; we will mix countries/nationalities so that participants can get to know each other better. Meals will be served at the hotel (breakfast, lunch, dinner and two coffee and tea breaks). All dietary needs will be catered for (please note those in your application form). The working space (training room) will be located in the hotel, except the visits which we will plan accordingly. Beds linen will provided. Please bring your own towels. TRAVELLING TO KOSOVO All participants are expected to arrive in Pristina, Kosovo and will be picked-up by the organisers from the airport. The Erasmus+ rules stipulate participants need to travel using the cheapest means of transport, economy class, direct route without long stopovers. Please see travel cost section below for details of travel reimbursement policy. Although participants can plan their travel individually and arrive earlier/depart later, the organisers can only commit to reimburse and organise board and lodging during the mentioned training days. If you plan to travel outside the official project dates (November 22- Page 5 of 8

6 30) you should contact us providing the reasons and buy ticket only if permission granted, otherwise you would not be reimbursed. Stopovers of more than 12 hours need to be authorized. Only public transport costs will be covered. If you intend to travel by car, this needs to be authorized by the Executive Agency and seminar team to be eligible for reimbursement. TRANSPORT TO AND FROM THE VENUE Upon arrival, participants will be picked up from the airport or bus station by one of our volunteers. All participants will be provided with the contact details of our team in Kosovo before travelling, in case there is any travel of flight delays. Before departure, participants will be taken to the airport, train or bus station. The contacts will be provided to the participants after the selection process is complete. TRAVEL COST REIMBURSEMENT Participants travel costs from their home city to Pristina will be reimbursed according to Erasmus+ Programme rules and regulations. Summary of reimbursement rules: - PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY TICKETS before consulting the price/route with the organisers (you can only buy tickets once your application has been accepted by the Team). - The organisers will only reimburse travel costs from the partner country to Pristina, Kosovo up to the limits indicated in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide (see below), based on actual expenditure - original tickets and receipts; please note that amounts below are MAXIMUM amounts, Ligo Lex Legis will reimburse the ACTUAL expenses up to the limits listed below. 7 Reimbursement will be done based on the EU Distance Calculator: (distance is calculated as one-way journey, but the amount in the Programme Guide is for a return trip) Participants are only allowed to travel to/from partner organisation countries (e.g. Greece partners from Greece, Turkish from Turkey, Finish from Finland, etc.) - Reimbursement of travel costs will only be done upon presentation of all original tickets, receipt/invoices and boarding passes (including return tickets). Documents provided must clearly state date of purchase, route and means of travel, name of the passenger, method of payment and price paid. Documents in languages other than English will have to be translated by participants. - Participants will be asked to send the originals of all return documents and boarding passes. Under no circumstances will tickets be pre-paid (i.e. you need to present all return tickets during the project in order to be reimbursed please buy all your tickets in advance). - Reimbursement will be done in EUR, regardless of the currency indicated on the ticket and receipt/invoice. Any tickets purchased in a local currency other than EUR, will then be converted and calculated according to the exchange rate of the month when the grant agreement for this project will be signed by the NA, as stated in the official European Commission web-site at - Please original tickets to dukagjin.leka@gmail.com once you have purchased them and no later than 20 June We need this to begin processing the financial and reimbursement data before the seminar, so that all payments may be made as efficiently as possible. - Reimbursement will only be paid to participants who attend the full duration of the course activities. PARTICIPATION FEE No Participation FEE is requested to be paid. VISA ARRANGEMENTS Citizens of EU countries, South-East European countries and Turkey do not need visas to enter Albania. HEALTH INSURANCE Health insurance is not provided and will not be reimbursed by the organisers. All participants should purchase private travel insurance policies. 8 - Intercultural Evening - please remember to bring whatever you think is important and worth sharing about your country, community and culture including food, drinks, music etc. We kindly request from you to make this training course very interactive: you can make a quiz; organize competitions, play typical games, teach a dance or a song, etc, etc.. Kosovo SIM cards can be purchased locally for 3-5 EUR.
