1 A FOUNDATION FOR GROWTH Annual Report 2015

2 1 Message from Habitat for Humanity Cambodia 2015 has been an eventful year full of joy and challenges. We worked hard with all of you; volunteers, donors, and supporters, to serve those in need in Cambodia. As we look back on the year we see that we have reached a record number of beneficiaries with 8212 households served throughout the country by Habitat Cambodia. We feel blessed to have made such an impact thanks to the dedication and continued support of our team, partners and friends from all over the world. It has not been without its difficulties. There are many obstacles to overcome when working on the issue of land tenure and decent housing in Cambodia. However, our program teams, hand in hand with our partners, have directly improved housing conditions for 1649 families by repairing houses, building new houses or improving the water and sanitation access of the most vulnerable Cambodia families in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Battambang. At the same time our housing finance and market development program continues to grow, in partnership with LOLC (Cambodia) Plc, Hatthakaksekar Ltd, VisionFund Cambodia, Kredit Microfinance Institution Plc, First Finance Plc and Sovann PhoumOrganisation (SPO). Through partnership with the private sector we have helped 6563 families to improve their housing conditions using sustainable market-driven solutions. Our land rights and housing advocacy program has also gained new supporters in Clifford Chance, Australian Aid through Habitat for Humanity Australia and Habitat for Humanity Canada through its Global Neighbors Program. We are happy that, after so much effort, a first group of families living in Battambang informal settlements have received land certificates from the government and have been able to start construction on their plots of land in December. The first phase of the Smile Village was successfully concluded in collaboration with PSE. We have also had a lot of success with local volunteer engagement and awareness raising events in the media, reaching out to tens of thousands and contributing to change the perception of housing within Cambodian society. It has been a lot of fun to welcome over 912 volunteers from 56 teams from all over the world and we hope that they will be happy to read that their work has been fruitful and will have a lasting impact on the situation of those who need our help. Habitat Cambodia is a wonderful collective effort and we are so grateful for the support of all our donors and volunteers will be a defining year for the future of Cambodia as private investment and government efforts need encouragement to be steered in the right direction and have a large scale impact. This is the objective of our new strategy which we look forward to implementing in partnership with you. Habitat for Humanity Cambodia Team 2 Annual Report 2015

4 2 Our Vision and Mission Vision A world where everyone has a decent place to live Mission Statement Seeking to put God s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. 4 Annual Report 2015

5 Mission Principles 1 Demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ. We undertake our work to demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus, acting in all ways in accord with the belief that God s love and grace abound for all, and that we must be hands and feet of that love and grace in our world. We believe that, through faith, the miniscule can be multiplied to accomplish the magnificent, and that, in faith, respectful relationships can grow among all people. 3 Advocate for affordable housing. In response to the prophet Micah s call to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God, we promote decent, affordable housing for all, and we support the global community s commitment to housing as a basic human right. We will advocate for just and fair housing policy to eliminate the constraints that contribute to poverty housing. And, in all of our work, we will seek to put shelter on hearts and minds in such powerful ways that poverty housing becomes socially, politically and religiously unacceptable. 2 Focus on shelter. 4 Promote dignity and hope. We have chosen, as our means of manifesting God s love, to create opportunities for all people to live in decent, du rable shelter. We put faith into action by helping to build, renovate or preserve homes, and by partnering with others to accelerate and broaden access to affordable housing as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. We believe that no one lives in dignity until everyone can live in dignity. We believe that every person has something to contribute and something to gain from creating communities in which all people have decent, affordable places to live. We believe that dignity and hope are best achieved through equitable, accountable partnerships. 5 Support sustainable and transformational development. We view our work as successful when it transforms lives and promotes positive and lasting social, economic and spiritual change within a community; when it is based on mutual trust and fully shared accomplishment; and when it demonstrates responsible stewardship of all resources entrusted to us.
