The levels of taxation and debt necessary to finance the massive government growth projected by the Administration s proposals is simply unsustainable. There is no level of worker productivity or entrepreneurial innovation that can support that kind of government dead weight. The destruction of our currency, for which both parties are responsible, is an affront and insult to every citizen. The assault on savers is a particularly egregious act against those who sacrificed in order to build a secure future for themselves. Those who played by the rules and have been betrayed by a government that clearly despises them. Worst of all each chart represents a huge but undocumented tax increase "tax the rich" they get off scot free while their policies literally destroy the American middle class. 2 PAG E 2 (Continued from page 1) VOLU ME 11, ISSU E 9 Every American working person, entrepreneur and saver has an absolute right, perhaps even an obligation to posterity, to remove from office every elected official who has supported these cruel and vicious regressive statist policies. November of 2010 was step one. November of While the charts above give a clear accounting-of the quantifiable problems with the current administration's policies, the numbers crunching, bean counting negatives, if you will, there are other aspects of those policies, not quantifiable, that are even more dangerous to who we are as Americans and they are really not getting any exposure at all in the campaigns. There are people writing about the attacks on our civil liberties, trying to get the information out to us, hopefully, before it's too late. I'd like to offer you some of the thoughts of one of them - Mr. Nat Hentoff. Nat Hentoff has been a pretty consistent middle of the road writer but he has also been one of this country's most passionate defenders of the First Amendment. He has literally lived that great quote from Voltaire (attributed) "I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Watching the current administration's actions he has turned his attention to its attacks on the Fourth Amendment and: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable search and seizures, shall not be violated... " In April Hentoff wrote: "How many Americans know that as of September 2013 all of us engaged in any form of communication will be subject-with the approval of President Barack Obama and the silence of Congress-to continuous tracking and data basing by the National Security Agency (NSA)?" It turns out the NSA has a brand new spy (on us) center sitting right next door in Bluffdale, Utah. It's five times bigger than the US Capitol and its job will be to store and analyze: "All forms of communications, including the complete contents of private s, cell phone calls and Google searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails-parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases... The Feds are running amok with their obsession to know everything about everyone. Hentoff asks: "Are you at all concerned?" Well, are we? On a personal note, I will miss Florence. We shared a lot of good times through the years and I consider it a privilege to have known her. I saw her a couple of times before she passed and, to a surprising degree, she was still "Florence" feisty and sharp as ever. Rest well New York Lady. # Knight can be reached at: knightallen702@yahoo.com

3 VOLU ME 11, ISSUE 9 PAG E 3 Please Don t Quote Me The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or anyone else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about anyone else. -Theodore Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 No man will ever bring out of the Presidency the reputation which carries him into it. Thomas Jefferson Being president is like being a jackass in a hailstorm. There's nothing to do but to stand there and take it. Lyndon B. Johnson In our brief national history we have shot four of our presidents, worried five of them to death, impeached one and hounded another out of office. And when all else fails, we hold an election and assassinate their character. P. J. O'Rourke

4 PAG E 4 VOLU ME 11, ISSU E 9 Immigration Legislation Update September 11, 2012 The day after returning from its annual August recess, the U.S. House of Representatives is ready to pass S. 3245, legislation that would reauthorize four expiring immigration programs: E-Verify, the EB-5 immigrant visa, the Religious Worker immigrant visa, and the "Conrad 30" J-1 program. House Leadership placed S on today's suspension calendar, which limits debate on the bill to a mere 40 minutes and prohibits Members from offering amendments to the bill. The legislation, which the Senate quietly passed just before the August recess began, extends each of these four programs for a three-year period. While true immigration reformers tend to be familiar with the electronic work authorization verification program known as E-Verify, very few are familiar with the other programs reauthorized in the legislation. The EB-5 immigrant visa program grants nearly 10,000 green cards each year to aliens who invest $500,000 to $1 million in a "new commercial enterprise" that will benefit the U.S. economy and create at least 10 jobs. (INA É 203(b) (5)) Critics have pointed out that the program has in fact only limited effectiveness, while supporters of the program claim this program benefits the U.S. economy, Just last month the Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security opened an investigation of the program amidst allegations that projects opened under the program are not adhering to securities regulations. Moreover, in 2005, the GAO found that after 12 years the EB-5 program had only led to $1 billion in investments, instead of the predicted $48 billion, and there was no reliable accounting of jobs created. The Religious Worker immigrant visa program allows aliens who meet certain conditions to obtain green cards to work either as a minister or as a non-minister in a religious organization. Approximately 10,000 employment-based visas are set aside each year for this program, of which 5,000 are set aside for non-minister immigrants. The Religious Worker immigrant visa program, however, has been criticized for not requiring organizations to establish need for such immigrant workers and rampant fraud in applications. In 2005, the USCIS Office of Fraud Detection and National Security found the program had a stunning 33 percent fraud rate. Yet some religious institutions insist that the program alleviates an "acute shortage of non minister religious workers in the United States." Serious doubts remain as to whether the program truly meets a need among religious organizations although subsequent regulations have helped reduce the fraud, The "Conrad 30" J-1 program allows aliens who are trained as doctors at U.S. universities to stay in the U.S. after their medical training is completed under certain circumstances. Generally, the J-1 program which allows aliens to train as doctors in the U.S. requires such doctors must return home for at least two years before returning to the U.S. as a nonimmigrant or immigrant. The Conrad 30 J-1 program, however, waives the home residency requirement for doctors who work in certain rural areas. The "30" designation refers to the number of J-1 doctors each state may sponsor for a waiver of the home residency requirement. As a result, not only does the Conrad 30 program displace U.S. doctors, but it also deprives developing countries of much-needed medical care providers. Because Leadership placed the bill on the suspension calendar, it is expected to quickly pass the House and be sent to President Obama for his signature. Delegates at the Democratic National Convention last week adopted the Party's official platform, which fully embraced the Obama Administration's immigration policy agenda. Wednesday evening, Benita Veliz became the first known illegal alien in U.S. history to address a national political party convention. (See Los Angeles Times, Sept. 5, 2012; see also FAIR Press Release, Sept. 5, 2012) Although her speech was just over two minutes, it was a crystal clear indication of President Obama's and the Democrat Party's position on immigration. Last week, the federal district court in Arizona enjoined the anti-smuggling provisions found in Section 5 of Arizona's immigration enforcement law, SB (Valle del Sol v. Whiting, No. CV PHX-SRB, D. Ariz. Sept. 5, 2012) Intended to help stop the dangerous practice of human smuggling, Section 5 prohibits individuals knowingly transporting or harboring illegal aliens within the state, or inducing illegal aliens to enter or live in the state. As a family member or friend who assists in patient care, you are a caregiver and therefore a member of the healthcare team. Caregivers have an important role in preventing healthcare associated infections. The good news is, it s easy for you to help prevent infections. Just remember: Do the WAVE. From the Editor PAG E 7 I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. Robert McCloskey Florence has left us. I for one will miss her very much. She was a member of the NSC Board for at least ten years and during that time helped us very much. She had a heart attack just before her birthday and was taken to Sunrise hospital where she was misdiagnosed and given an infection. She was brought home and taken to see her regular doctor who put her in Saint Rose Dominican Hospital where the service was superior. After a few days she was transferred to Creekside Hospice near the hospital. This hospice was another disaster where she got poor care and a bedsore in a couple of days. So she was transferred to Nathan Adelson Hospice where she got good care and where she passed away. Jeannine Mincinelli her niece from Oklahoma was taking care of all of this to the detriment of her health and sanity. She flew back and forth between Oklahoma and Nevada many times. Knight, LouJanice (my wife) and I helped Jeannine as much as we could. Florence was ready to pass on and was not suffering in the end. See you later Florence. Perry President/Newsletter Phone: Fax: Tina Rowe Vice President Directors: Belle Chohanin Vernon Perry Knight Allen Vernon Perry September 13, 1814 Finance Membership Legislation Issues A young lawyer, Francis Scott Key, had come to negotiate the release of an American physician being held on a British ship. As the evening of September 13, 1814, approached, he was detained in Baltimore harbor on board a British vessel since a bombardment was about to commence. Throughout the night and into the early hours of the next morning, Key watched as the British bombed nearby Fort McHenry with military rockets. As dawn broke, Key was amazed to find the Stars and Stripes, tattered but intact, still flying above the fort. British forces had disembarked on September 12 from their ships at the mouth of the Patapsco River to begin an assault on the city of Baltimore. British Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane commenced a naval bombardment of the fort, the last remaining barrier to the city on the following day. The siege of Baltimore, which came soon after the British occupation of Washington, D.C., was a turning point in the War of On September 14 after being turned back on land and at sea, the British abandoned their attempt to capture Baltimore. Four months later, they signed the Treaty of Ghent, which brought an end to the war. Key's experience during the bombardment of Fort McHenry inspired him to pen the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner." He adapted his lyrics to the tune of a popular drinking song, "To Anacreon in Heaven," and the song soon became The Nevada Seniors Coalition, Inc. (NSC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.
